El ensayo se realizó en los galpones experimentales ubicados en el cantón Tosagua, provincia de Manabí, se evaluó la inclusión de glicerina obtenida como subproducto de la industria del biodiesel como posible aporte de energía en la dieta de aves de engorde. Para probar la hipótesis se utilizaron tres tratamientos: T1 (maíz-soya), T2 (1% glicerina) y T3(2% glicerina). Para probar las dietas se utilizaron 168 pollitos recién nacidos de la línea Cobb 500, distribuidos entre tres tratamientos y siete repeticiones dentro de un diseño completamente aleatorio, para la separación de medias se utilizó la prueba honesta de Tukey (0.05). Los datos se analizaron con el paquete estadístico en versión libre InfoStat 2017. Se evaluó el comportamiento de las variables zootécnicas de respuesta más importantes: peso, consumo alimenticio, conversión alimenticia y peso de carcasa. Finalizado el trabajo experimental no se evidenció diferencia estadística (p>0.05) entre los tratamientos; las aves pertenecientes a T3 (2846±87.13g) alcanzaron el mejor peso corporal seguidos por T2 (2809±87.13g) y T1(2773±87.13g), en cuanto al consumo de alimento los animales que recibieron glicerina tendieron a consumir más T3 (4969±97.53g) y T2 (4857±97.53g) comparado con T1 (4742±97.53g), sin embardo resultan estadísticamente iguales; en conversión alimenticia T1 (1.71±0.05) fue más eficiente trasformando el alimento en relación a T2 (1.73±0,03) y T3 (1.75±0.05); y, finalmente los animales que recibieron glicerina en la dieta presentaron los pesos de carcasa más altos T3(2362±76.32g) y T2 (2332±76.32g) contrapuestos con el testigo (2246±76.32g). La inclusión de glicerina cruda en el alimento para aves no afectó de forma significativa sus parámetros productivos.
Las leguminosas forrajeras, en general representan alto valor proteico; sin embargo, presentan limitaciones para su establecimiento debido a la latencia de las semillas. En función de ello, se evaluó la germinación de la semilla de Macroptilium atropurpureum, luego de recibir escarificación química con ácido sulfúrico al 96% en inmersión durante tres minutos, inmersión en agua caliente a 80ºC durante cinco minutos, en agua potable al ambiente durante 24 horas y un testigo (sin tratar). Se aplicó un diseño completamente aleatorizado con 15 repeticiones cada uno. Las variables cuantificadas fueron rendimiento de semillas, germinación y supervivencia de plántulas. Se encontraron 73000 semillas viables y 3% de impurezas por cada kilogramo de semilla recolectado. Las semillas tratadas con ácido sulfúrico fueron las que presentaron un mejor porcentaje de germinación y supervivencia (80 y 75.56%); seguida por las tratadas con agua a 80ºC (75.56 y 73.34%). La escarificación de semillas de leguminosas debe ser un procedimiento imprescindible, mismo que debe hacerse con un ácido sulfúrico concentrado por cuanto se encontraron los mejores resultados en germinación de semillas y supervivencia de plántulas
