RESUMENEn este trabajo se presentan y discuten los resultados obtenidos de la caracterización tribológica por deslizamiento de una aleación utilizada en el revestimiento de los cilindros de un motor de combustión interna, a partir de los cuales se determinan la tasa y los mecanismos de desgaste por medio de perfilometría, microscopía óptica y microscopía electrónica de barrido. Además, se determinó la composición química de la aleación evaluada por la técnica de espectroscopía de emisión atómica de descarga electrostática. Este estudio nos permitió entender los fenómenos que se presentan en las superficies de los materiales sujetos a desgaste del sistema de combustión interna, considerando a futuro proponer modificaciones en el material para reducir su desgaste e incrementar su vida útil. La composición de la muestra nos confirma que se trata de una fundición gris, esta contiene precipitados de grafito en forma de hojuelas, la dureza del material es 225.7 HV y la tasa de desgaste en las condiciones de prueba es 2.2x10-6 mm 3 /Nm.
