Este trabajo pretende contribuir con una documentación, generada desde el discurso de los jóvenes, con inclusión de una interpretación y un análisis, a modo de una opción de lectura, con propósitos de aproximarse a la cosmovisión que ellos declaran acerca de la participación, y, en consecuencia, a un sistema configurante de actitudes deseables de portar. Se conformaron grupos de discusión, constituidos por alumnos y alumnas de establecimientos de distinta adscripción administrativa y de identificación diferente. desde el punto de vista socio-económico. Estas últimas consideraciones se han estimado desde la perspectiva de una adaptación de los criterios de J.J. Macionis (1994), contemplando -así- niveles alto y medio-alto, medio-medio, y medio-bajo y bajo. Se ha respetado-también- la dimensión de homologación y de heterogeneidad que son necesarios en este tipo de procedimientos.
Los estudios sobre roles de género han mostrado que las distintas culturas establecen pautas de conducta consideradas apropiadas según los sexos, observándose una diferenciación más rígida entre hombre y mujer en las sociedades tradicionales que en las modernas. La internalización de los roles de género ocurre principalmente durante la socialización primaria en la familia y en la escuela, agentes de la socialización en los cuales aún están arraigados muchos de los patrones culturales de la sociedad tradicional. Los datos de la investigación que aquí se presentan, correspondientes a un estudio descriptivo, realizado en una comunidad rural pobre de la región de Valparaíso, permiten confirmar los antecedentes teóricos anteriormente señalados. Los resultados de éste estudio , si bien desde la perspectiva general, no muestran diferencias porcentuales con respecto al comportamiento de la variable modos de socialización, en términos de socialización participativa y represiva, sí muestran divergencias cuando al interior de esta variable se analiza la dimensión estructura de roles. En este caso se observan diferencias en la forma de cómo las madres rurales socializan a los niños ya las niñas. La reforma educativa enfatiza la necesidad de disminuir, entre otras, las desigualdades de género. Sin embargo el presente estudio permite señalar que la reproducción cultural ejercida por la familia mantiene una socialización diferencial por género. Al respecto es recomendable estudiar y considerar estrategias y acciones coordinadas con las familias con el propósito de disminuir las diferencias lo que constituye un claro desafío para la reforma educacional en nuestro país.
El análisis de datos sobre exposición a la televisión y evaluación de los programas televisados provenientes de encuestas realizadas a muestras aleatorias de estudiantes de educación básica, sus madres y sus profesores(as) en las zonas urbanas de Valparaíso y Viña del Mar, Chile, indican que los profesores(as) exhiben el grado más bajo de exposición. En relación con la evaluación de los programas, los estudiantes realizan una evaluación más positiva que sus madres y profesores(as), señalando que aprenden valores positivos e importante material para su educación, diferente de la que aprenden en la escuela. Los profesores(as) expresan la evaluación más negativa de los contenidos de la televisión aprendidos por los estudiantes, enfatizando la violencia y consumismo de dichos contenidos. Asimismo, consideran que la exposición de los estudiantes a la televisión dificulta sus tareas como docentes. En relación con la forma en que los niños y niñas reciben los mensajes de la televisión, se rechaza la recepción pasiva. Se discute que la evaluación negativa de la televisión que manifiestan los profesores(as) y su desconocimiento del uso que los estudiantes hacen de ella, en el actual contexto de alta exposición infantil a la televisión, dificulta el uso de la televisión como una adecuada herramienta educacional.
