Dentro da conjuntura capitalista existe um modo de organização do trabalho que transcende a dicotomia patrão x empregado conhecido como Economia Solidária (ES), pautada nos conceitos de justiça, solidariedade e sustentabilidade. A qual conta entre seus modelos de produção, o extrativismo familiar como um dos principais eixos de abrangência deste modelo de desenvolvimento regional. A partir desta temática, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os ganhos oriundos da economia solidária em uma comunidade de quebradeiras de coco babaçu no interior do Brasil. Para isso, foi lançado mão da observação in loco, e de um questionário semiestruturado onde as respostas foram cruzadas para constatação de melhorias (ou não) nas condições de trabalho, sendo estas utilizadas como parâmetro de avaliação neste estudo. Os resultados observados vão ao encontro do que mostra a literatura onde esse modelo auxilia a comunidade a sobrepor as barreiras econômicas e sociais. Os participantes da pesquisa demonstraram boas perspectivas quanto ao futuro da ES, porém foi constatada a importância do apoio dos órgãos governamentais, da sociedade, e da formação de parcerias com empresas e pesquisadores para o desenvolvimento e valorização das atividades. Conclui-se que o empreendimento solidário, além de gerar renda e conhecimento aos seus integrantes, cria um ecossistema de colaboração crucial para o desenvolvimento social e econômico dentro das comunidades na qual são praticados.
Os Sistemas de Informação Geográfica (SIG) constituem importante ferramenta de acompanhamento do processo de uso e cobertura do solo. Neste sentido, com o presente estudo buscou-se analisar o uso e cobertura do solo do Território dos Cocais no Piauí e seus possíveis impactos na produção de coco babaçu. A metodologia consistiu na utilização de imagens de satélite LandSat 5 e 8 TM e construção de carta de uso e ocupação do solo para quatro munícipios do território, entre os anos de 1990 e 2015. Também, foram utilizados dados estatísticos do IBGE sobre a produção de coco babaçu. Os resultados apontam para o aumento da área do solo exposto entre 1990 e 2015, de 2% para 8% do território estudado, enquanto a mata ciliar foi reduzida a 50% e a produção de amêndoa de coco babaçu de 72%, quando analisada a série dos anos compreendidos entre 1975 e 2015.
A atividade extrativista de Produtos Florestais Não Madeireiros constitui importante fonte de renda para diversas comunidades nos países em desenvolvimento, configurando-se dentro de alguns grupos como prática cultural identitária. Para garantir incremento da renda e continuidade no longo prazo de tais atividades, é necessária a adoção de novos padrões organizacionais mais sustentáveis. O presente trabalho, objetivou identificar os principais entraves para promoção de emprego e renda sustentável na cadeia produtiva do babaçu na Mata dos Cocais, localizada entre os estados do Maranhão e Piauí. Os dados obtidos foram analisados por meio de revisão bibliográfica, de entrevistas e formulários. O conhecimento limitado acerca do mercado, uma capacidade organizacional incipiente e a baixa escolaridade dos catadores foram as principais dificuldades encontradas ao longo da pesquisa. Desta forma, destaca-se que apenas a partir da adoção de ações conjuntas é possível que ocorra a ampliação dos ganhos na extração do coco babaçu, utilizando-se de métodos éticos e sustentáveis, bem como de maneira a estimular a valorização cultural interna para o fortalecimento de tais práticas ancestrais.Palavras-chave: Extrativismo.
