Os motores elétricos de média tensão que acionam ventiladores industriais são grandes consumidores de energia elétrica. A vazão deste tipo de sistema de ventilação é geralmente controlada por válvulas do tipo damper, alocadas no lado de sucção dos ventiladores. Nessas condições, ainda que com vazão reduzida no sistema, a demanda de energia por parte do motor é próxima ao valor associado ao seu carregamento nominal. Neste contexto, o objetivo do presente trabalho é a análise técnica e de viabilidade financeira para a substituição do controle por válvulas damper pelo controle da velocidade utilizando um conversor de frequência, em um sistema de despoeiramento de uma indústria siderúrgica, de forma a incrementar a eficiência energética do sistema, que possui dois motores de média tensão de 1,4 MW (cada). A investigação para a viabilidade da modificação de seu controle será feita através da análise das curvas características do sistema, da comparação dos dois métodos de controle através da simulação computacional do sistema e do cálculo do consumo de energia com o novo método de controle de vazão, de forma a se comprovar a redução do consumo de energia elétrica e o retorno do investimento a ser realizado.
