Data and planting density on the production and quality seed the triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of sowing dates and seeding rates on triticale seed yield and quality. This work was performed during the autumn-winter season in 2006-2007, at the research station of The Technological Institute of Roque, located at km 8 of the highway Celaya-Juventino Rosas, Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. We used three cultivars of triticale of different genetic origin (Roque I, AN-31 and AN-105) with one formula per hectare of 120-100-100, NPK. Three sowing dates were evaluated, November 9, November 23, and December 7, and fi ve seeding rates at each planting date, 50 kg/ha, 75 kg/ha, 100 kg/ha, 125 kg/ha and 150 kg/ha. The variables evaluated were plant height, ear length, seed yield, vigor, and germination. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with a factorial arrangement. The optimal sowing date for seed production was November 9, resulting in a yield of 5,305 t/ha. This treatment resulted in the highest values for ear length, plant height, vigor, and germination. When selecting important traits to produce high quality seed, through sowing density, the highest plant population was obtained with 125 kg/ha resulting in a yield of 3,834 t/ha, vigor of 82.0% and germination of 89.83%.
ABSTRACTKnowing the type of gene action that controls agronomic traits is essential for the planning and development of a maize genetic improvement program. The objective of this study was to determine the genetic components of general combining ability (GCA), specific combining ability (SCA) and reciprocal effects (ER) involved in the expression of agronomic traits in a set of S 3 maize lines. F 1 crosses and their progenitors were evaluated at two planting dates: March 18 and May 28, 2014. The following agronomic traits were recorded: plant height, days to male and female flowering, days to physiological maturity, general appearance of the plant, crop yield and some of its components.
The objective of this study was to assess the chlorophyll content of corn lines at different vegetative stages and the diversity between them. The study was conducted in the experimental field of the Roque Institute of Technology (ITR) located in Roque, Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. We used 32 corn lines from CIMMYT and four lines from the breeding program of the ITR. The evaluation was conducted in the spring-summer cycle of 2014 at two planting dates. We used a completely randomized block design with three replications. The experimental unit consisted of two rows of five linear meters with a distance of 0.75 meters between rows. Chlorophyll was measured at six different stages: V6, VT, R3, R4, R5 and MF. The agronomic variables recorded were: PH, CH, LAC, LBC, FF, MF, PM, CC, CL, DC, RC, KR and GY. The results of the analysis of variance showed significant differences between lines, dates and their interaction. On average, 18 lines were found with chlorophyll concentrations above 51 SPAD units in the two environments. This indicated that these materials had a high potential for field performance. Using cluster analysis UPGMA method, we identified seven groups for chlorophyll and eight groups for agronomic characteristics for a breeding program. The groups were associated to the homogeneous characteristics of each variable. *Corresponding author. M. M. Elos et al.1068
Chitosan is a biopolymer obtained from deacetylation of chitin; it has multiple applications in agriculture as an antifungal, soil conditioner, inducer of defense mechanisms, fruits postharvest coating, leaves and seeds, among others. The objective in this research was to evaluate the effect of chitosan coatings mixed with fungicide (dithiocarbamate) on the germination and germination speed of bean and maize seeds in storage and to determine the retention capacity of the fungicide in the coated seeds under different times of imbibition. Two coating treatments at concentrations of 0.1 and 0.5% chitosan in water, two coatings treatments at 0.1 and 0.5% chitosan supplemented with 0.5% fungicide and a coating without chitosan using only 0.5% fungicide in water were used in bean and maize seed; and as control seeds imbibed in distilled water were used; after treatments, germination percentage and germination speed were determined, also fungicide release were determined at 0, 1, 2 and 6 h of imbibition, and the effect of storage time on germination and germination speed was determined at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 days of storage at 4 °C and 45% relative humidity. The fungicide release effect was determined by inhibiting Fusarium oxysporum conidia germination. There were no negative effects of coatings on seed germination after storage. The treatment that provided both greater retention of the fungicidal agent and released it gradually, was 0.5% chitosan mixed with fungicide concentration. Chitosan coating seeds mixed with fungicide do not cause negative changes in seed germination or germination rate.
