El objetivo de este artículo es indagar qué tanto ha evolucionado la disciplina administrativa como técnica o como episteme, en el contexto latinoamericano. Se plantea que la teoría latinoamericana de la administración enfrenta una doble problemática: la epistemológica, por su falta de consistencia y coherencia interna, y la sociológica, debido a que su aparato conceptual está constituido de enfoques técnicos, ligados a procesos de producción a nivel mundial de corte pragmático-racionalistas; esta teoría administrativa, se fundamenta en el liberalismo económico, en modelos gerenciales provenientes en forma dominante de Europa y Estados Unidos, así como Japón. Asimismo, se busca describir sintéticamente hacia dónde se dirigen las agendas alternativas de investigación en administración para superar este escollo, mediante una conceptualización del papel que en nuestras sociedades juegan las empresas y las organizaciones.
Este artículo plantea un debate y una discusión teórica a la problemática epistemológica y sociológica de la teoría administrativa de Latinoamérica. En la primera existe una polisemia de teorías, conceptos y significados. Y en la segunda, constatamos que estas teorías provienen de contextos sociales, económicos y culturales diferentes al nuestro. El alcance del estudio radica en su aportación crítica al debate teórico; su limitante es realizar investigación empírica en cada país. La discusión se focaliza en la crítica de la teoría convencional de la administración que desde perspectivas funcionalistas y positivistas distraen las cuestiones básicas de la sociedad como el poder, la dominación, la explotación. En contraposición a estos enfoques, se describen sintéticamente algunas agendas no convencionales de investigación en administración.
Este artículo surge a partir de estas interrogantes: ¿es lo mismo dirección y liderazgo?, ¿existen diferencias o semejanzas?, y ¿cuáles son? Para intentar dar respuesta se analizan las características y variaciones de diferentes enfoques dentro de la teoría administrativa norteamericana del liderazgo, de la cual se reconocen sus alcances y limitaciones. Asimismo, se plantean las diferencias entre líderes y administradores, entre los siervos del poder y los servidores públicos, para considerar finalmente la posibilidad de una teoría alternativa del liderazgo que supere los límites del liderazgo individual ausente de consideraciones éticas y colectivas.
En este artículo se efectúa una revisión literaria sobre el pensamiento social en torno al conflicto con el propósito de entender de manera amplia e interdisciplinaria la ocurrencia de este fenómeno en empresas y organizaciones. Se utiliza la heurística como método hermenéutico selectivo y aleatorio para identificar las diferentes corrientes teórico-metodológicas en la teoría sociológica, en sus vertientes marxista, funcionalista y estructuralista. El objetivo es determinar sus alcances y limitaciones, teniendo en cuenta su conexión con la teoría administrativa norteamericana vinculada a la corriente funcionalista. Además, se establecen las diferencias para la interpretación del conflicto en el pensamiento oriental y occidental.
