In previous studies (Ruiz Amil eta l., 1979; D e Miguel e ta l., 1981; Doval ? 1983, 1984, 1985) of interstratified minerals such as mica-smectite, chlorite-smectite, chloritevermiculite, etc., from materials of diverse origin, the Fourier Transform method was used, together with interlamellar sorption of organic compounds such as ethylene glycol, glycerol and aliphatic amines. In a recent work (Ruiz Amil et al., 1988), a chlorite-smectite interstratified mineral has been studied, using for the first time the INTER program (Vila & Ruiz Amil, 1988). The aim of the present work is to study the interstratified phase of the material, to confirm this phase as hydrobiotite, and then to study the behaviour of this material with the intercalation of aliphatic amines (variation of basal spacings). The material studied was chosen because of the high crystallinity of the constituents and the great number of basal reflections in the X-ray patterns.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
