Rural transformation in Nigeria constitutes a major problem. Over the years rural development has not been given priority attention and this is where about seventy percent of the estimated Nigeria population of 180 million resides. The problem has largely been identified as government non-sustainable policy action towards rural transformation. The paper highlights the importance of small hydropower technology in driving rural economy thereby reducing rural-urban migration.
