As malformações congênitas estão relacionadas à fatores hereditários ou promovidas por agentes ambientais, à citar: tóxicos, infecciosos, nutricionais, químicos e físicos. Em felinos, a casuística de neonatos com malformação situa-se entre 1% e 2%. Dentre as patologias mais observadas destacam-se a fissura palatina (mais frequente), hidrocefalia e agenesia do tubo digestivo. Na fissura palatina secundária o fechamento do palato é incompleto, o paciente apresenta escoamento de leite pelas narinas, tosse, engasgos e/ou espirros na alimentação e infecções do trato respiratório, sendo o diagnóstico confirmado através da inspeção da cavidade oral. O artigo trata-se do manejo clínico e nutrição assistida, sem correção cirúrgica. Um felino, macho, da raça Maine Coon, neonato foi recebido em uma clínica sob queixa de rejeição da progenitora. No exame físico, observou-se a presença de uma fissura palatina secundária congênita. A tutora e médica veterinária, optou pelo manejo clínico considerando a escassez de literatura referente ao tratamento cirúrgico em neonatos portadores desta patologia. O paciente foi alimentado por sonda orogástrica até a sua completa adaptação à alimentação seca de grandes formatos aos cinco meses de idade. Durante esse processo de adaptação à sua condição congênita, o felino desenvolveu dois quadros de pneumonia aspirativa por Klebsiella pneumoniae e a ingestão de corpo estranho (parte da sonda orogástrica), avaliado por radiografia e removido por endoscopia na porção descendente do duodeno. No acompanhamento do paciente até a idade de um ano e nove meses, o felino não apresentou recidivas quanto à pneumonia aspirativa. O animal encontrava-se saudável até a data de submissão deste trabalho. O presente relato tem por objetivo discorrer a respeito do manejo clínico do paciente nessa condição e as dietas oferecidas para a manutenção vital, bem como seu crescimento.
