Objetivo: conhecer a utilização e realização da episiotomia de rotina, relacionando-a com a violência obstétrica, através de revisão de literatura. Método: revisão integrativa de literatura. A busca foi realizada em bases de dados entre agosto e outubro de 2017, com 31 seleções da amostra geral de 760 artigos encontrados. Resultados: amostra composta por 31 artigos, dos quais 22 (71%) foram escritos em português e 9 (29%) em inglês. A violência obstétrica é definida como atos e procedimentos que prejudicam a mulher nos aspectos físicos, verbais e psicológicos em todo o ciclo gravídico-puerperal. A episiotomia quando realizada de forma rotineira e sem autorização da mulher configura-se violência obstétrica. Considerações finais: os estudos analisados nesta revisão procuram transformar o modelo intervencionista em humanizado e que mantenham a autonomia da mulher no trabalho de parto, com uma assistência fundamentada cientificamente.
