Este é um texto crítico, produzido com o intuito de contribuir para o debate acerca da Gestão Integrada do Controle da Dengue, segundo a perspectiva da Saúde Ambiental, com foco nas ações de comunicação em saúde. Nesse sentido, a partir da realização de uma revisão crítica da literatura especializada e da análise de documentos de referência para a Saúde Pública, a presente obra pretende contribuir para superação da tradicional abordagem epidemiológica da Dengue - que ao priorizar um modelo de gestão reativo, investindo a maior parte dos recursos (econômicos e operacionais) em ações de controle vetorial após cada surto ou epidemia - pouco contribui para a prevenção de novos casos. Na mesma direção, enfatizamos a crítica aos modelos de comunicação estratégica e mobilização social para mudança de comportamento, adotados como eixo político para prevenção e controle da Dengue, que culpam e responsabilizam a população. Finalmente, na presente obra, apresentamos e discutimos uma proposta de gestão integrada, que incorpore a perspectiva de análise da influência dos determinantes ambientais, sociais, econômicos e culturais ao panorama epidemiológico atual, para o qual é preciso que o sistema de saúde responda efetivamente.
