Em 2016 vários estudantes ocuparam mais de 800 escolas no estado do Paraná. Esta ação se estendeu para as universidades e para outros estados. Este artigo reflete sobre este movimento em Francisco Beltrão. A partir de entrevistas semiestruturadas, reportagens veiculadas no jornal local e revisão bibliográfica, analisa-se as experiências formativas vividas pelos secundaristas, bem como sua contribuição no fazer político destes jovens. Com base nas categorias experiência e fazer-se de Thompson conclui-se que as ocupações foram importantes no fazer político dos participantes que, ao disputarem a educação pública e o espaço escolar, colocaram-se como sujeitos de seu tempo histórico.
O avanço das políticas neoliberais e o acirramento dos conflitos de classes têm repercutido no âmbito educacional, como observado em 2015 e 2016. Inicialmente, isto aconteceu por meio de reformas educacionais levadas a cabo em diferentes estados brasileiros e, em seguida, por meio de políticas públicas nacionais, tais como a reforma do ensino médio e a PEC 55. Em ambos os casos, houve a reação dos estudantes através de ocupações escolares. Este artigo reflete sobre as ocupações ocorridas em 2016, no Paraná, especialmente no município de Francisco Beltrão. O objetivo é historicizá-las e destacar seu caráter formativo. A pesquisa tem caráter qualitativo e se realizou a partir de leituras sobre a temática, análise de documentos e entrevistas com onze estudantes. O texto apresenta o processo das ocupações escolares no país entendidas a partir da categorização temporal proposta por Groppo (2018). Mostra também como este processo foi vivenciado no município de Francisco Beltrão, revelando e seu potencial formativo e considerando as contribuições de Paulo Freire, para quem “a prática da liberdade só encontrará adequada expressão numa pedagogia em que o oprimido tenha condições de, reflexivamente, descobrir-se e conquistar-se como sujeito de sua própria destinação histórica” (FIORI, 1987, p. 5).
