Background: The term temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) applies to functional changes related to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and it is associated to masticatory structures. The main symptoms are pain in the TMJ region and / or the masticatory musculature. Objective: to perform a systematic review on the effects of manual therapy in the treatment of TMD. Methods: We analyzed 231 articles from the databases of Bireme, BVS, Lilacs, MedLine, PEDro, Pubmed and, Scielo. Of these, only 30 were selected for the elaboration of the article and 6 were used for the qualitative synthesis. Studies of controlled clinical trials of high methodological quality and high clinical relevance on the PEDro scale were included, which used the same evaluation measures, VAS (visual analogic scale), PPT (pressure pain threshold) and maximum mouth opening (MMO), and only one treatment technique comparing the control group with placebo. Result: The studies presented positive results for pain in VAS, PPT and MMO; however, there are significant differences depending on the technique. Myofascial release has a strong efficacy in reducing the symptoms of acute pain in the long term, but does not show clinically significant changes in mouth opening amplitude and MMO. Mobilization / manipulation presents significant changes in MMO, significantly improving the efficacy of mouth range of motion in the treatment of the short-term pain symptom, however does not sustain in the long term. Conclusion: The tool for the individual treatment of patients is based on the symptoms addressed, significantly improving the effectiveness of the range of motion of the mouth in the treatment of joint mobilization / manipulation, and treatment of pain by myofascial release.
Introduction:Cancer is now the third leading cause of death in the world, surpassed only by cardiovascular accidents and deaths by external causes, among them stands mammary carcinoma. Mastectomy is in a procedure consisting of invasive breast removal due to some anatomical and functional changes previously diagnosed. With the growth of the disease and its high content in increasingly young women, Manual Therapy has been used as a new form of treatment. Objective: To show the effects of manual therapy in patients after mastectomy surgery. Method: This is a systematic review in which secondary and tertiary sources were used, and the databases PubMed, Medline, Lilacs and SciELO were used. It was adopted as inclusion criteria studies classified as: a randomized controlled trial, with publication period between 2009 and 2013. Were used as search terms: "Mastectomy", "Neck", "Shoulder Pain", "Musculoskeletal Manipulations" and "Functionality". Results: Among the 37 initially selected by electronic search in the databases of articles, 25 were excluded for the title did not meet the inclusion criteria. Of the 12 retained studies, 5 were excluded for duplicity. Seven studies were selected for a more thorough analysis through summary, 2 of them being excluded. The remaining 5 articles were evaluated from reading the text. It can be seen that the manual therapy techniques have significant results in the alleviation of muscle pain in patients submitted to surgery mastectomia. Conclusion: It can be seen that the manual therapy techniques have significant results in the alleviation of muscle pain in patients undergoing the mastectomy surgery. However, there is still a lack of studies of type randomized controlled trial on the effects of manual therapy in patients in the postoperative period of mastectomy.
ELETROLIPOLYSIS EFFECTS IN ADIPOSITY ABDOMINAL• review • AbstractIntroduction: excess abdominal fat has been affecting a large portion of the population that cares about the appearance. Localized adiposity is the accumulation of excess fat in specific regions of the human body. The eletrolipolysis is a specific low frequency microcurrent technique for the treatment
Introduction: adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) is a common disease that causes significant morbidity. Chiropractic care is based on technical adjustments that restore normal micro-motion to the spine, reducing neural compression cause of painful symptoms that particular dermatome. The aim of this paper is to review the scientific literature the effects of chiropractic in patients with frozen shoulder. Method: This is an integrative review article, made from primary sources. As criteria for inclusion of articles, we selected only those whose methodology was Clinical Trial Controlled Randomized, published in the period 2010 to 2016, which made reference to features and methods of the relevant chiropractic treatment of frozen shoulder, which compared a group chiropractic and another that applied conventional physiotherapy or other similar technique. Results: The search in databases totaled 18 randomized controlled trials. According to the inclusion criteria, only three articles were selected. The three studies have shown benefits of chiropractic for improvements in mobility, pain and function. Conclusion: Each article has shown benefits with the application of chiropractic techniques frozen shoulder.
Introduction:Owing to the surgery of breast cancer, post-surgery healing can evolve with functional alterations, such as pain, decreasing of movement breadth and other alterations that can occur on the homolateral shoulder of surgery. Within this prospect, one proposes the Kinesio Taping method as a new resource in physiotherapy area that might be used as coadjuvant treatment of mastectomized patients. Objective: Analysis of the effect of Kinesio Taping method in relation with pain relief and increase of the breadth of homolateral shoulder movement from mastectomized patients. Method: Bibliographic review was fulfilled from data bases such as LILACS, PubMed, SciELO, MEDLINE, academic Google, besides other sites and books. Researched period ranged from 2000 to 2014. Results: The results of the researched works indicate that Kinesio taping method is effective in the treatment of algic complaints and of increase of movement breadth in pathologies like tendinitis at the rotator cuff and syndrome of shoulder impact. None of the cited studies were realized in mastectomized patients. Conclusion: The mechanisms wherein functional bandage could aid over shoulder performance of mactetomized patients are not clear because there are not any study that proves the effectiveness of Kinesio Taping
