An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during July to December 2015 to evaluate the effect of row spacing on the performance of three short duration transplant Aman rice varieties. The experiment consisted of three rice varieties viz. Binadhan-7, BRRI dhan39 and BRRI dhan49 and five row spacings viz. 15cm×15cm, 20cm×15cm, 25cm×15cm, 30cm×15cm, 35cm×15cm. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Results revealed that crop characters, yield contributing characters and yield were significantly influenced by variety, row spacing and their interaction. The highest plant height (112.31 cm), panicle length (24.74 cm), number of grains panicle-1 (120.35) and biological yield (9.88 t ha-1) were obtained in BRRI dhan39,while the highest number of total tillers hill-1 (10.00), effective tillers hill-1 (8.35), grain yield (3.75 t ha-1) and harvest index (41.10 %) were found in BRRI dhan49. In case of row spacing the tallest plant (107.70 cm), the highest number of effective tillers hill-1 (9.23) were obtained at 35cm × 15cm row spacing, whereas the highest number of grains panicle-1 (119.52), 1000-grain weight (24.87 g), grain yield (3.80 t ha-1) and harvest index(40.29) were obtained at row spacing 25cm × 15cm. In case of interaction the highest grain yield (4.44 t ha-1) and harvest index (46.20%) were obtained in BRRI dhan49 with the row spacing of 25cm × 15 cm. The experimental result concludes that BRRI dhan49 transplanted at 25cm × 15cm row spacing could be a promising practice in terms of grain yield.
An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh from February to June 2010 to study the effect of bio fertilizer and weeding on the growth characters and yield of summer mungbean (cv. Binamoog-7). Experimental treatments comprised of (a) five levels of biofertilizer: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 kg ha -1 and (b) four levels of weeding: no weeding, one weeding, two weeding, and three weeding. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The results indicate that the highest plant height (58.83cm) was obtained at 60DAS from 4 kg biofertilizer ha -1 and the highest dry weight plant -1 (17.78g) at 60DAS was produced from 2 kg biofertilizer ha -1 .Three times weeding produced highest plant height (41.69cm) and dry weight plant -1 (18.09g) at 60DAS and seed yield (1.96 t ha -1 ) was attained significantly at maximum level from the application of 2 kg ha -1 biofertilizer.Application of 2 kg biofertilizer ha -1 with three times weeding was proved to be the best possible combination.
A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University from November 2016 to March 2017 to find out the effect of irrigation regimes and nitrogen (N) fertilization on the yield performance of spring wheat. The experiment was comprised five levels of irrigation viz., no irrigation (I0); CRI (crown root initiation stage) (I1); CRI + maximum tillering stage (I2); CRI + maximum tillering stage + flowering Stage (I3); CRI + maximum tillering stage + flowering stage + grain formation stage (I4); and six levels of nitrogen viz., 0, 60, 80, 100, 120 and 140 kg ha -1 under Split Plot design with three replicates. Except few all the yield contributing characters and yield of wheat were significantly influence by the application of irrigation and nitrogen. The highest number of total tillers hill -1 (4.15), effective tillers hill -1 (3.63), number of spikelets spike -1 (14.67), grain yield (2.862 t ha -1 ), straw yield (3.45 t ha -1 ), biological yield (6.312 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (45.34%) were obtained from two irrigation at CRI+ Maximum tillering stage. In nitrogen management, the highest plant height (91.17 cm), number of spikelets spike -1 (15.24), number of grains spike -1 (44.46), spike length (10.89 cm), grain yield (2.93 t ha -1 ), straw yield (3.478 t ha -1 ) and biological yield (6.408) and harvest index (45.72%) were obtained from application of 120 kg N ha -1 . In interaction, the highest grain (3.897 t ha -1 ), straw (4.76 t ha -1 ) and biological yield (8.661 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (45.02%) were achieved from two irrigation at CRI + maximum tillering stage with application of 120 kg N ha -1 . The lowest grain yield (1.22 t ha -1 ) was achieved from one irrigation at CRI with no nitrogen application. Whereas, the lowest straw (2.13 t ha -1 ) and biological yield (3.78 t ha -1 ) were achieved from no irrigation with 60 kg N ha -1 . Based on these results it may conclude here that farmers may apply two irrigations (one at CRI and another at maximum tillering stage) with 120 kg N ha -1 to obtain the higher yield of wheat under Bangladesh context.
An experiment was conducted during kharif (summer) season 2021 at the substation of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Gopalganj, Bangladesh. Yield and yield contributing attributes of BINA developed four sesame varieties were observed during the trial. A Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications was performed. The varieties were V1 = Binatil-1, V2 = Binatil-2, V3 = Binatil-3 and V4 = Binatil-4. Results from the experiment revealed that plant height, number of branches plant-1, number of pods plant-1, pod length, pod breadth, number of seeds pod-1, 1000 seed weight and seed yield were significantly different among the varieties. The tallest plant (106.00 cm) was found in Binatil-1 while shortest plant (77.33 cm) was observed in Binatil-3. It was observed that Binatil-2 had the foremost branches plant-1 (4.80) while the lowest number of branches plant-1 was found in Binatil-1 (0.33). Moreover, Binatil-3 showed the very best number of pods plant-1 (93.33) while Binatil-1 gave the lowest number of pods plant-1 (47.87). The largest pod was found in Binatil-1 (3.74 cm) while the smallest was found in Binatil-2 (2.42 cm). It had been recorded that Binatil-1 showed the maximum number of seeds pod-1 (76.97) while Binatil-3 gave the minimum number of seeds pod-1 (57.60). The highest number of thousand seed weight was recorded in Binatil-3 (3.12 g) while the lowest thousand seed weight was recorded in Binatil-1 (2.93 g). It had been detected that the variety Binatil-2 showed the highest seed yield (1.35 ha-1) while Binatil-1 gave the lowest seed yield (1.25 ha-1). The remarkable growth and yield performance of sesame from kharif season (summer) trial was observed at Binatil-2. And it will be helpful to select the varieties having high yield potential as well as future breeding materials of sesame in Bangladesh. Vol. 9, No. 3, December 2022: 247-251
