Metal nanoparticles deposited on N-doped carbon materials have emerged as novel catalysts for various organic transformations. In this Minireview, strategies for the synthesis of metal composites on N-doped carbon supports and their state-of-the-art characterization are briefly described. The catalytic application of these fascinating materials in several industrially relevant reactions, including oxidations, hydrogenations, Fischer-Tropsch syntheses, and H2 generation, is also summarized. Furthermore, the effects of nitrogen incorporation on the different catalytic systems are highlighted.

Fluoroalkylated olefins made easy: a mild and selective Ni-catalyzed fluoroalkylation including trifluoromethylation of alkenes was developed. Various fluorinated olefins were provided in good to excellent yields.

The synthesis of fluorinated compounds is of increasing importance for the preparation of new pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. For this purpose, the development of general and selective synthetic methods, which allow the preparation of versatile and scalable building blocks, is required. In this respect, here we report a facile and practical method for the stereoselective synthesis of fluoroalkylated -fluoroenones from [a] 70 ubiquitous ketones. The presented transition-metal-free procedure makes use of an amine promoter and easily available starting materials. It features broad substrate diversity with excellent stereoselectivity. In general, this novel strategy provides a facile synthesis of structurally diverse (per)fluoroalkylated -fluoroenones, which can be further transformed to various potentially bioactive molecules in a straightforward manner.Recently, in a joint cooperation with industry we started a program for the development of practical perfluoroalkylation Scheme 1. Selected applications of perfluoroalkyl halides for the synthesis of perfluoroalkylated compounds and our strategy.

This paper report a convenient methodology for perfluoroalkylation including trifluoromethylation of (hetero)arenes with perfluoroalkyl bromides using a specific cobalt-based nanocatalyst.

A direct perfluoroalkylation of (hetero)arenes using the air- and moisture-stable complex (dppf)Ni(o-tol)Cl was developed (23 examples) which allows for the synthesis of various fluorinated products and tolerates sensitive functional groups including aldehydes, free amino groups and several heterocycles.
