Rostros, fotos sacadas de la ESMA fue el título que llevó la muestra montada porel Museo de Arte y Memoria (MAM) de La Plata, en marzo de 2007. Se trató de una exposición de las fotografías rescatadas por Victor Basterra del centro clandestino de detencióndonde estuvo por más de cuatro años, secuestrado y forzado a realizar trabajo esclavodurante la última dictadura militar en Argentina. Estas imágenes, fueron mostradas porprimera vez en un espacio de exhibición memorial y artístico, en esa ocasión. En este artículo indagaremos cómo estas imágenes ingresan a un espacio que admite que su lenguajees el arte. Reflexionaremos sobre los desplazamientos, operaciones de edición y montaje alas que estas imágenes fueron sometidas por parte del MAM. Esta muestra nos interpelaa preguntarnos sobre tensiones inherentes a la imagen fotográfica; ya que se encuentranentre la pérdida y la conservación; el registro y la evocación, lo documental y lo artístico;la información y la emoción, el pasado y el presente.
En la última transición argentina a la democracia, el gobierno de Raúl Alfonsín delineó un programa de justicia fundado en la demarcación de tres niveles de responsabilidad para el juzgamiento de los perpetradores de violaciones a los derechos humanos cometidas en dictadura. A partir del análisis de documentos históricos y fuentes orales, el artículo revisa el desarrollo histórico, político e intelectual en la formulación de esa propuesta, las variaciones producidas en la iniciativa oficial durante los primeros cuatro años de democracia y las tensiones específicas que las acompañaron, así como los diálogos entre el género jurídico y el político en esos procesos. Finalmente, examina la forma en que el programa de justicia se entroncó con otros procesos políticos considerados centrales de la transición, y propone interpretar la existencia de una tensión constitutiva en el proyecto como clave que permite una lectura transversal a esos distintos procesos.
Esta tesis analiza los procesos de construcción de sentidos y memorias colectivas sobre la última dictadura argentina, por parte de un espacio de memoria cuyo lenguaje fundamental es el arte. De modo se analizan las lógicas de producción y circulación de imágenes fotográficas en la construcción de nuevas narrativas sobre los desaparecidos en el Museo de Arte y Memoria de La Plata (MAM). Para ello abordamos una constelación de elementos que construyen nuestro objeto de estudio. Entre ellos, el marco histórico y geográfico de la lucha por los derechos humanos en la región y su institucionalización (en el capítulo I); los debates teóricos sobre el arte, la memoria y los espacios museísticos (en el capítulo II); las imbricaciones del campo fotográfico con el de la memoria (en el capítulo III); y el trabajo artístico sobre dos tipos de archivos fotográficos: los álbumes familiares y los acervos de las fuerzas represivas; y su llegada e instalación en el MAM (en el capítulo IV). En este sentido nuestro análisis partió desde la idea de que la imagen de un desaparecido no se inmoviliza nunca, ya que se encuentra siempre en la dicotómica y tensionante relación entre lo irreversible, de la desaparición, y lo inacabable, de su interrogación y usos. Entre los dos grupos de exhibiciones interpretamos a los archivos que utilizan, así como los nuevos sentidos que construyen bajo las nociones de “memorias sobrevivientes” y “memorias recuperadas”. Las primeras gestionadas directamente por familiares, que también son artistas, en este caso fotógrafos que construyen y reafirman los sentidos con los que fueron creados esos los álbumes y a la vez los ponen en relación con nuevas narrativas, instalándose en la institución museística como las voces legitimadas para abordar las historias familiares, la memoria y las ausencias de los desaparecidos. Y las segundas, gestionadas y producidas por instituciones, en este caso el MAM y la Comisión Provincial por la Memoria (CPM). En las que estos organismos construyen nuevos relatos con memorias recuperadas, como son los archivos de la policía o las fotos rescatadas por Victor Basterra de la ESMA, que a través de distintas operaciones artísticas y de montaje intentan subvertir las intenciones que produjeron esos materiales originariamente.
El artículo estudia la reconversión del predio del ex Centro Clandestino de Detención de la Escuela de Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA) en sitio de memoria, a través del análisis del proceso de renovación urbana originado tras la puesta en marcha de distintas políticas de memoria, realizadas por la gestión conjunta entre organismos de derechos humanos y estamentos del Estado. En la intervención arquitectónica, se dan políticas de conservación y transformación material del predio que promueven diferentes formas de uso, apropiación, significación y memorialización. Nuestro estudio propone una perspectiva espacial del lugar, para lo cual realizamos un análisis de las condiciones urbanísticas y arquitectónicas en tanto cimientos de las políticas de memoria que allí se realizan.
