<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 42.55pt;">A isotretinoína é uma droga de ação teratogênica, utilizada no tratamento da acne vulgar por causar a redução no tamanho das glândulas sebáceas e ainda normalizando a queratina na abertura do folículo piloso. Relatos indicam que o uso desse fármaco está envolvido com malformações ósseas. Objetivou-se nessa pesquisa analisar as conseqüências do uso da isotretinoína sobre o processo de ossificação endocondral, de jovens ratos Wistar machos submetidos à ingestão oral de uma dose de 8mg/kg/dia dessa medicação, do 17º ao 30º dia de vida. A amostra composta por 20 espécimes foi distribuída entre o Grupo Controle (recebendo apenas óleo vegetal, com n=10) e o Grupo Experimento (recebendo a isotretinoína diluída em óleo vegetal, com n=10). Ao fim da administração os animais foram eutanasiados e os fêmures foram coletados, dissecados e realizados cortes para a confecção das lâminas histológicas coradas pela técnica da Hematoxilina-Eosina. A análise microscópica do material permitiu verificar uma redução da população de células no canal celular e na epífise óssea, decréscimo da matriz osteóide, má definição e redução do espessamento do periósteo e áreas mal definidas no processo de osteogênese no Grupo Experimento em relação ao Grupo Controle. Nesse sentido, com base nos resultados, foi possível concluir que houve um retardo no processo de ossificação e redução da matriz óssea do grupo submetido ao tratamento com isotretinoína, vindo a alentar as suspeitas de estudos anteriores onde se relatou as malformações ósseas decorrentes do uso desse fármaco.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top: 5.0pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 5.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; text-align: justify;">Palavras-Chave: </p>
