IntroduçãoMicroesferas poliméricas contendo partículas metálicas têm atraído um grande número de pesquisas devido às suas propriedades químicas e físicas, já que apresentam um grande potencial de aplicações nas áreas da biotecnologia, das ciências médicas, bem como no desenvolvimento de processos de separação de metais [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] . Essas propriedades dependem da distribuição do tamanho das partículas poliméricas e da presença ou não de interações entre a superfície da matriz e os contaminantes. Além disso, esses materiais são separados facilmente do meio reacional devido às suas propriedades magnéticas, o que requer aparatos simples se comparados a outros processos de separação [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16] . A preparação das resinas magnéticas é similar à preparação das resinas convencionais, isto é, são sintetizadas pelos métodos de polimerização em suspensão ou emulsão, com a obtenção de partículas que podem ser classificadas de acordo com seu tamanho [17][18][19] . Microesferas poliméricas à base de estireno e divinilbenzeno sintetizadas por polimerização em suspensão com propriedades magnéticas vêm sendo estudadas há algum tempo, porém foi observado que o material magnético, especificamente o ferro, apresenta maior afinidade pela fase aquosa do sistema reacional do que pela fase orgânica, constituída pelos monômeros, iniciador de polimerização e os diluentes [20] . Há evidências na literatura que a adição de um monômero polar poderia aumentar a afinidade do ferro pela fase orgânica, proporcionando assim a obtenção de microesferas com maiores teores de ferro [20][21] . Além disso, a incorporação do comonômero MMA nas microesferas poliméricas proporcionaria a modificação química da sua superfície pela introdução de novos grupos funcionais.O objetivo deste trabalho foi sintetizar copolímeros reticulados à base de estireno, divinilbenzeno e metacrilato de metila com boas propriedades magnéticas e avaliar a influência das concentrações dos monômeros, do grau de diluição dos monômeros, da temperatura e da velocidade de agitação da polimerização sobre as propriedades dos copolímeros obtidos.
