O trabalho objetivou quantificar variáveis fisiológicas e bioquímicas, com potencial de aplicação operacional em viveiros de mudas clonais de eucalipto na fase de expedição e estudar sua relação com variáveis biométricas avaliadas durante o crescimento inicial em campo. Foram utilizadas mudas produzidas por miniestaquia apical de dois clones comerciais híbridos de Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla, cultivadas em tubetes de 53 cm³ com substrato orgânico. O estudo se consistiu de avaliações em viveiro, laboratório e em campo aos 0, 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias, após o plantio. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e quando significativos submetidos ao teste Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. Variáveis relativas ao padrão de rusticidade de mudas, utilizadas de forma subjetiva por viveiristas, foram quantificadas e validadas no viveiro e no campo. Diferenças entre clones foram observadas para as variáveis avaliadas. O teor de carboidratos e o índice de fluorescência foliar não variaram significativamente entre as classes de índice de clorofila. O teor de nitrogênio foliar, proteínas e o potencial hídrico foram diretamente proporcionais ao índice de clorofila. Concluiu-se que a tonalidade da copa das mudas pode ser relacionada com a rusticidade e que a tonalidade esverdeada é mais indicada por possuir uma maior rusticidade.
