Propomos uma análise de A Santa Joana dos Matadouros (2009), de Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956), partindo do conceito de violência simbólica de Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) e demonstrando como esse tipo de violência é utilizada pelos magnatas da carne, em especial pelo antagonista, Pedro Paulo Bocarra, para justificar suas ações contra a classe trabalhadora como representada no drama brechtiano. Para a discussão sucinta da ideia de violência simbólica, recorremos às considerações de Bourdieu no ensaio “A codificação” (2004) e nos livros Meditações pascalianas (2001) e A dominação masculina (2020). Para fundamentar a aplicação desse conceito extraliterário à peça de Brecht, recapitulamos as considerações da crítica brechtiana sobre o teatro épico e seu diálogo profundo com as estruturas sociais que o cercam. Por fim, analisamos algumas passagens de A Santa Joana dos Matadouros que, a nosso ver, figuram violência simbólica dos capitalistas contra os trabalhadores.Lit
