El presente trabajo de Tesis tuvo por objetivo estudiar monocapas autoensambladas (SAMs) de tioles sobre sustratos planos de oro: Au(111) y Au(100). Se abordaron SAMs de glutatión (GSH), el tiol más importante que se encuentra en la célula y de 6-mercaptopurina (6MP), un fármaco empleado en ciertas enfermedades autoinmunes. Así como también SAMs de hexanotiol (HT), un alcanotiol modelo sobre el Au(100), con el propósito de conocer más sobre esta superficie que ha sido poco estudiada. Se emplearon diversas técnicas fisicoquímicas de superficie complementadas con cálculos teóricos. De este modo, se busca avanzar en la comprensión de la compleja interfaz S-Au en estos sistemas en términos de su estructura y de su composición química. Los resultados de estos estudios tienen relevancia para el caso de nanopartículas de oro protegidas con tioles, ya que estas nanoestructuras están formadas fundamentalmente por planos {111} y, en menor medida, planos {100}.
