The close spacial relationship between the circumflex artery and the mitral annulus. Reprinted with permission from: Carpentier A, Adams DH, Filsoufi F. Carpentier's Reconstructive Valve Surgery. Philadelphia, PA: Saunders; 2010. Central Message Circumflex artery injury during MV surgery is most likely under-recognized and underreported. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are associated with the most favorable outcomes.
The hospital-stay duration after first surgery was 30 (12-99) days. There were no postoperative mortalities. Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus, preoperative chemotherapy, and COPD could be significant risk factors for postoperative empyema. Infecting organisms associated with postoperative empyema were related to preceding postoperative complications. Therefore, emphasis on controlling factors that contribute to pulmonary and surgical-site infection and pulmonary air leak is important to prevent postoperative empyema.
Magnetic resonance is frequently used to obtain medical ima ges for diagnosis. To perform these exams high magnetic fields are applied, implying at least ±10,000 times the va lue of the Earth basal field (3-7•10-5 T). In our experimental study we used adherent cells (rat peritoneal macrophages), cultured in standard conditions (37 °C, 5% CO 2) with adequate media in 6 wells plates. Three groups for each type of cell were established: control, head and body coil, being the irradiation performed with a 1.5 T (University Hospital of Coimbra) and a 3 T (National Functional Brain Imagiology Network-IBILI) intensity fields. Macrophages' cytotoxicity and viability were tested with the MTT i assay 0, 12, 36, 60 and 84 hours post-irradiation. Irradiated macrophages presented slightly less viability and adhesion features compared to control, although no differences between the head and body coil were found.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
