The purpose of this study was to identify the preferences of women's opinions on the choice of a mate. Participants of the study were 15 women who work in different jobs in several health agencies. Interviews were used as a qualitative research method to collect personal/detailed data from participants. Qualitative data obtained from participants were analysed by the content analysis method. Results showed that the majority of women prefer to get married men who are older than themselves and averaged in physical appearance. It was identified that honesty is the most desired personality characteristic for women when choosing a partner, followed by, in order: assertiveness, respect and understanding. Women in the study admitted that they prefer men with different personality characteristics and social status from those of theirs and also prefer men who have an income level and social status similar to or higher than their own. Caring and loving father themes were identified in terms of women expectation from their partner. Health related quality of life (HRQOL) concept is one of the major outcome measures in management of chronic diseases in children. Herein we aimed to review HRQOL by using PedsQL Generic Core Scales in children with cancer and chronic diseases. Materials and Methods: All patients with cancer under treatment (oncology group), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), nephrological disorders like recurrent urinary tract infections and other endocrinologic disorders such as precocious puberty and growth retardation and their parents who gave consent were included in the study. Turkish version of PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales self and parent proxy-reports were used for all patients of 8-12 and 13-18 years of age. Results: There were 48 children in oncology group; 44 in non-oncology group. The most common diagnoses were leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and brain tumors in the oncology group. Children reported significantly higher scores in the school subscale and physical functioning subscale, psychosocial functioning, and total scale scores in the non-oncology group compared to patients with cancer. A strong positive significant correlation was detected between all subscales except for social functioning scores of children and parents in child selfreport and parent proxy-report correlations. Conclusion: Cancer is a devastating disease that impair functioning more than other chronic diseases in all areas of life of children and parents. PedsQL Genereric Core Scales is a usefull tool for evaluating HRQOL in both cancer and other chronic diseases.
The purpose of this study is to investigate views of parents and siblings of children with cancer whose treatment is continuing about family support sources and individual coping strategies. In line with this purpose, face to face interviews were conducted with 24 parents and 12 siblings from 12 families. Data were analyzed through inductive content analysis approach. Themes and sub-themes that formed support sources and coping strategies were identified according to the analyses results. Accordingly, support sources were composed of the themes such as internal family strengths, extended family support, health team, social support, workplace support, and support from the institutions and organizations. Coping strategies included themes such as appraisal-focused, problem-focused, and emotion-focused themes. In conclusion, the present study revealed important clues about planning protective and supportive interventions for the families in a way to include medical health care providers.
Present study probes into the effect of coping program against creativity-based burnout on decreasing the burnout syndrome among nurses. Data of the research in which pretest-final test control group experimental pattern is employed have been obtained from 22 nurses stationed in different units in a state hospital within Adana. 11 nurses were categorized under experiment group and 11 nurses were placed in control group in. Data of the research in which creativity-based coping program prepared by researchers have been utilized were collected via Maslach Burnout Inventory. In data analysis, nonparametric tests have been implemented and obtained results have proven that tested-program created significant effect in decreasing emotional burnout of nurses.
