TiNi mikro partiküller ile %5-25 hacimsel oranlarda takviye edilen AZ91 magnezyum matrisli kompozit malzemelerin korozyon özellikleri %3.5 NaCl çözeltisi içerisinde potansiyodinamik polarizasyon (PDS) yöntemi ile araştırılmıştır. Elektrokimyasal değerlendirmeler Tafel ekstrapolasyonu tekniği ile saptanmıştır. Metalografik incelemeler taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM) ve optik mikroskop (OM) kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Mikroyapısal analizler elektrokimyasal değerler ile birbirini desteklemektedir. Korozyon potansiyeli (Ecorr) ve korozyon akım yoğunluğu (ίcorr) değerlerinin artan takviye miktarıyla artığı belirlenmiştir. Korozyon sonrası yüzey incelemelerinde tüm kompozit numunelerde çukurcuk korozyonu gözlenmiştir. Matris fazda yer alan alan β-Mg17Al12 intermatalik çökeltilerin ve yüzey morfolojisindeki homojensizliklerin kompozit malzemelerin korozyon dayanımı üzerinde önemli bir etkiye sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
Öz En çok kullanılan ticari magnezyum (Mg) alaşımı olan AZ91'in %90'ı basınçlı döküm yöntemiyle üretilmektedir. Basınçlı dökümün birçok avantajı olmasına rağmen, işlem sırasında oluşan gaz boşlukları nedeniyle bu yöntemle üretilen AZ91 alaşımlarına ısıl işlem uygulanamamakta ve kaynak sırasında çeşitli problemlerle karşılaşılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, mikroyapısında üretim sonrasında herhangi bir şekilde hapsolmuş gaz ve boşluk içermeyen AZ91 alaşımlarının üretilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Ön alaşımlı AZ91D tozları 420, 450 ve 500 °C sıcaklıklarında 1 saat süreyle sıcak preslenerek numuneler üretilmiştir. Presleme basıncı 50 MPa olarak sabit tutulmuştur. Üretilen numuneler tel erezyon ile 5x5x10 (mm) boyutlarında kesildikten sonra Arşimet metodu ile yoğunlukları ölçülmüş, X-Işını Difraktometresi (XRD) ve Taramalı Elektron Mikroskobu (SEM) ile mikroyapıları incelenmiştir. 450 ve 500 °C'de yapılan sıcak presleme işlemi sırasında AZ91 alaşımında kısmi erime meydana geldiği gözlenmiş ve bunun nedeninin Mg-Al ikili faz diyagramındaki 437 °C'de yer alan ötektik faz dönüşümünün gerçekleşmesi olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. 420 °C'de 1 saat süre ile yapılan sıcak presleme sonrasında AZ91 alaşımının tam yoğunluğa ulaştığı tespit edilmiştir. XRD ve SEM analizleri sonucunda mikroyapının α (Mg'ca zengin) ve β (Mg17Al12) fazlarından oluştuğu belirlenmiştir. Üretilen alaşımların mekanik özellikleri oda sıcaklığı, 100, 150 ve 200 °C'de yapılan basma testleri ile belirlenmiştir. Sıcak presleme yöntemiyle üretilen AZ91 alaşımının mekanik özelliklerinin döküm yöntemleriyle üretilenlerden daha iyi olduğu görülmüş, akma dayanımı, basma dayanımı ve süneklik için sırasıyla 183 MPa, 241 MPa ve %10.1 değerleri elde edilmiştir. Beklendiği üzere, test sıcaklığı arttıkça akma ve basma mukavemetlerinde azalma, süneklikte ise artış görülmüştür.

Korozyon sonrası morfolojik incelemelerde numune yüzeylerinde çukurcuk korozyonu ile birlikte kurtçuk korozyonu da gözlenmiştir.
