Anther development, microsporogenesis and microgametogenesis of six species of the genera Corchorus, Heliocarpus, Luehea and Triumfetta were analysed. The genera were found to share the following characters: ontogeny of anther wall of basic type; simultaneous microsporogenesis, resulting mainly in tetrahedral tetrads; secretory tapetum and pollen grains shed at the bicellular stage. Moreover, the characters that differentiate them are: presence of uninucleate tapetal cells in Heliocarpus and Triumfetta; binucleate cells in Corchorus and multinucleate cells in Luehea; differentiation of the thickenings of the endothecium at free microspores stage in Corchorus, Heliocarpus and Triumfetta, whereas in Luehea differentiation occurs at the mature pollen grains stage; late disintegration of sporogenous tissue cell walls in Luehea; and the presence of orbicules, absent only in Corchorus. This is the first embryological report of the Grewioideae subfamily, contributing to the characterization of the genera studied. The results are discussed in relation to the known data for the family.
Palabras clave: hoja, morfo-anatomía, Passiflora, tallo Leaf and stem morpho-anatomy of Passiflora caerulea (Passifloraceae). We studied the leaf and stem morphoanatomy of P. caerulea order to identify species specific characters. The plant material was collected in the Felix Perez Cardozo District, Department of Guairá, Paraguay. Direct and stereoscopic microscope observations of the vegetative and reproductive parts were carried out for the botanical characterization. The leaf and stem cross sections were performed with a manual rotary microtome and direct staining with safranin (1%), was applied. P. caerulea is a liana with pentangular stem, tendrils with decompressed twisting; simple leaves, alternate, tri-to penta lobed; petiole with stipitate glands; solitary and axillary flowers. The anatomical characteristics found were: adaxial and abaxial epidermis with wavy edge, anomocytic and parasitic stomata type in the abaxial face; bifacial mesophyll with dorsiventral symmetry; drusen located at the middle vein parenchyma and at the sheath of vascular hooks; hollow medulla, and others. Anatomical details allow ti distinguish P. caerulea.
Palabras claves: Passifloramitosis -cromosomasAn improved technique for the observation of mitotic chromosomes in Passiflora L. species. The need for the optimization a technique that allows the visualization of mitotic chromosomes emerged from unsatisfactory results with other tested staining protocols, such as staining techniques with acetic acid 45% for observation with the phase contrast microscope, acetic hematoxylin, acetorcein 2%, and acetic carmine 2% (without mordant). The purpose of this work was to develop a feasible technique for repeated observation of mitotic chromosomes in rootlets of species of the genus Passiflora.
