Apresentando diferentes temáticas em mais um livro da Coleção Antropologia da Política, O Dito e o Feito, organizado por Mariza Peirano, traz uma coletânea de ensaios sobre rituais, pensados através de trabalhos do antropólogo Stanley Tambiah, e de referenciais lingüísticos, em autores como Austin, Peirce e Jakobson. Três características de Tambiah, presentes no ensaio de Peirano sobre A Análise Antropológica de Rituais, na primeira parte do livro, atravessam os demais: os ensaios se conjugam na discussão do ritual como instrumental analítico e manifestação nativa, que deve ser percebida pelo antropólogo e por uma tradição de renovação da antropologia pelo diálogo com as etnografias clássicas e referenciais teóricos diversos. Em seguida, dois ensaios compõem a segunda parte, intitulada Ensaios Analíticos, trabalhados a partir da Lingüística de Charles S. Peirce e Roman Jakobson, utilizando os estudos lingüísticos como recursos para a análise dos rituais. No primeiro dos ensaios, Ana Flávia M. dos Santos analisa um drama teatral de Nelson Rodrigues, O Beijo no Asfalto, trazendo ao leitor um "complexo jogo dialógico, por meio do qual se caracterizam os personagens". Em conjunto com Peirce, a autora centra o texto no movimento dialético, proposto pelo antropólogo Vincent Crapanzano, visualizado por um personagem que tem uma ação essencializada através de um ato lingüístico convencionado. O outro ensaio analítico, curiosamente intitulado Jakobson a Bordo da Sonda Espacial Voyager, de Jayme Moraes A. Filho, assim como o ensaio que o antecede, escapa à análise do político, tendo como tema um projeto para o estabelecimento de contato com seres extraterrestres, o SETI@HOME. Como o título já manifesta, Roman Jakobson é referência para se pensar uma tentativa de comunicação com um outro hipotético, não-presente, assim como nos exemplos de procedimentos mágicos
