Epilepsia pode ser entendida como um grupo de doenças que tem em comum crises epilépticas que recorrem na ausência de condição tóxico-metabólica ou febril. Qualidade de vida é um conceito subjetivo baseado na perspectiva do sujeito, como sente e funciona. Atividade física (AF) é todo movimento corporal voluntário humano, que resulta num gasto energético acima dos níveis de repouso, caracterizado pela atividade do cotidiano e pelos exercícios físicos.O objetivo deste trabalho foi pesquisar sobre a qualidade de vida (QV), a prática de atividades físicas e suas correlações em adolescentes com epilepsia (grupo caso) e comparar com adolescentes sem epilepsia (grupo controle). Foram avaliados 60 adolescentes, sendo 30 deles assistidos no ambulatório de Neurologia/HC da Unicamp com diagnóstico de epilepsia. Os outros 30 adolescentes, sem este diagnóstico, foram alunos de escolas públicas da região de Campinas-SP, classificados como grupo controle. Os critérios de inclusão do estudo foram: ter diagnóstico de epilepsia há mais de dois anos e capacidade para responder as questões, para o grupo caso, e não ter epilepsia e capacidade para responder as questões, para o grupo controle. Os critérios de exclusão para os dois grupos foram: ser portador de outros quadros neurológicos ou doenças psiquiátricas evidentes, não terem se submetido a cirurgia no cérebro, fazer uso de medicações que pudessem afetar o sistema nervoso central, exceto drogas antiepilépticas (grupo caso). Foram aplicados questionários específicos para avaliação da qualidade de vida e avaliação sobre atividades físicas de ambos os grupos, após a aplicação dos questionários foi feita análise estatística dos mesmos. Os adolescentes com epilepsia e sem epilepsia praticaram atividade física sem diferença significativa, a qualidade de vida de ambos os grupos foi semelhante, sem diferença significativa. A prática de atividades sedentárias também foi avaliada, sendo que o grupo controle praticou mais atividades sedentárias que o grupo caso, com diferença estatisticamente significativa. Nossa amostra teve bons resultados quando quantificado e comparado com um grupo de pessoas saudáveis. Outro fator importante é relacionado à qualidade de vida, que em diferentes esferas se mostrou semelhante entre os grupos, também. A prática de atividade física por adolescentes com epilepsia pareceu se mostrar segura nesta amostra, a atividade física pode ter influenciado positivamente a qualidade de vida destes indivíduos. Mais estudos se fazem necessários para ampliar a análise deste público, buscando beneficiar os pacientes e profissionais envolvidos com os mesmos.
