RESUMOO estudo objetivou-se avaliar a autopercepção de idosos praticantes de atividade física nas ATIs sobre os efeitos decorrentes da prática inadequada. Estudo transversal, com aplicação de inquérito. O inquérito foi elaborado pelos autores da presente pesquisa. As entrevistas foram realizadas em duas cidades, Bastos-SP e Martinópolis-SP. Foram aplicados 39 inquéritos em idosos. O lazer é o motivo que levam os idosos às ATIs (56%); 69% passavam entre 30 minutos à 1 hora e 44% frequentam 5 dias; 72% acham que realizam atividade corretamente, 79% conhecem as consequências da prática inadequada 67% sentem falta de ajudar. Independente do grau de escolaridade e situação financeira 97% afirmaram conhecer a importância da atividade física para saúde. Dos hipertensos e diabéticos que realizam atividade sem orientação, podem estar degradando a saúde. Os idosos têm uma percepção positiva em relação à saúde e a prática de atividade física, visto que conseguem atingir as recomendações ideais. SELF-PERCEPTION OF HEALTH EFFECTS OF ELDERLY OF THE THIRD AGE ACADEMIES GOERS IN SMALL CITIES (SÃO PAULO) ABSTRACTThe study aimed to evaluate the perception of elderly practitioners of physical activity in ITAs on the effects of inadequate practice. Cross-sectional study with survey application. The survey was developed by the authors of this research. Interviews were conducted in two cities, Bastos-SP and Martinópolis-SP. 39 were applied investigations in the elderly. Leisure is the reason that lead the elderly to ITAs (56%); 69% went from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 44% attend 5 days; 72% think properly perform activity, 79% know the consequences of inadequate practice 67% miss to help. Regardless of the level of education and financial situation 97% said they knew the importance of physical activity for health. Of hypertension and diabetes who perform activity without guidance, they may be degrading health. The elderly have a positive perception of the health and physical activity, as they can achieve the optimal recommendations.
