Adotando o Modelo Metateórico de Motivação e Personalidade (3M) proposto por Mowen (2000) como fundamentação teórica, este estudo examina traços de personalidade como antecedentes do comportamento de compra online. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um levantamento com 768 e-consumidores. A técnica de Modelagem de Equações Estruturais (SEM) foi utilizada para testar as hipóteses propostas. Os resultados mostram que o Modelo 3M aplica-se ao contexto investigado, contribuindo para o poder explicativo da intenção de compra online. Os traços situacionais diversão na compra, percepção de risco e consciência de valor impactaram a intenção de compra online. O estudo mostra que a intenção de compra online sofre influência de traços associados a motivações utilitárias e hedônicas.
