Autores e críticos tradutores como Paulo Rónai, Haroldo de Campos e Augusto de Campos são exemplos de (re)nomes que têm contribuído para o preenchimento desses espaços por meio de suas teorias e práticas tradutórias. No entanto, ainda há muito para ser descoberto, assim como existem contribuições de autores brasileiros a serem desvendadas. Nesse sentido, a obra Para traduzir o século XIX: Machado de Assis (2004) apresenta um considerável panorama histórico da situação tradutória que existia no Brasil oitocentista, em que a autora, mineira de Belo Horizonte, Eliane Fernanda Cunha Ferreira, traz Machado de Assis em sua figura de tradutor, até então pouco conhecida e disseminada. Pesquisadora da obra machadiana, Ferreira, além de docente, também atuou como secretária no Brasil das Jornadas Andinas de Literatura Latino-Americana (JALLA) e como editora da INTERLetras-revista eletrônica transdisciplinar de Letras, Educação e Cultura do Centro Universitário da Grande Dourados-UNIGRAN/MS. Sua obra, uma versão adaptada e revisada de sua tese de doutorado em Literatura Comparada, defendida em 2001, na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), possui caráter multidisciplinar, pois, além de apresentar uma análise do campo dos estudos da tradução também se insere nos estudos pós-coloniais, no pós-estruturalismo e na literatura comparada. Estruturado em quatro partes, ele apresenta 207 páginas muito bem apresentadas e organizadas, que levam o leitor a refletir sobre um Machado de Assis diferente do convencional. O prefácio, ou como a própria autora nomeia, a apresentação, é assinada, Londres (2004), por Else Ribeiro Pires Vieira, orientadora de doutorado de Ferreira e ressalta em breves páginas a relevância do trabalho para os estudos da tradução e para os estudos pós-coloniais. Além disso, chama a atenção para o ineditismo de dados encontrados pela autora em suas jornadas de pesquisa nacionais e internacionais. Por fim, consagra a obra à "Casa de Machado de Assis" e sustenta o engrandecimento dado por meio desse estudo para a Academia e as Letras Brasileiras.
