La endometriosis es una de las patologías ginecológicas más comunes y de las que presentan mayor afectación en la vida de la mujer. Es una enfermedad en donde las glándulas o el estroma endometrial se encuentran fuera de la cavidad uterina y se caracteriza principalmente por dolor pélvico crónico asociado principalmente al ciclo menstrual y que puede llegar a ser incapacitante. Las personas que viven con esta enfermedad deben atravesar un proceso insidioso, en ocasiones descrito como un ‘’calvario’’ hasta llegar a un diagnóstico certero y aun así después de encontrar la causa de su dolor el manejo posterior llega a ser de gran impacto en la calidad de vida de la mujer. El enfoque principal de este artículo es exaltar la afectación que sufren las personas con endometriosis desde distintitas esferas: física, mental, social, familiar y también el estigma que envuelve a estas personas. Se desea generar consciencia principalmente en el personal de salud sobre una enfermedad tan frecuente y tan importante de ser manejada de forma eficaz, oportuna y multidisciplinaria para así lograr romper el estigma que tanto afecta a estas personas, por consecuente poder mejorar la calidad de vida y la atención que se les brinda tanto al enfermo como al entorno que le envuelve.
