Purpose Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the costly challenges in the health field. Despite the individual studies in the Eastern Mediterranean, there is no comprehensive study in this regard. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of GDM in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Methods In this meta-analysis and systematic review, three international databases (PubMed, Web of science and Scopus) were searched from inception until 30 December 2018. The Hui tool was used to assess the quality of the included studies. Results Thirty-three studies performed on 887166 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Based on the results of random effect method, the overall prevalence of GDM was 11.7%. Between six country with have three or more study, pooled prevalence for Saudi Arabi it was 3.6 times more than Israel (17.6 vs. 4.9%), and for Pakistan, Qatar, Bahrain and Iran were 15.3%, 14.7%, 12.2%, and 8.6%, respectively. Conclusion Despite the high diversity of methods, the results of the present study indicate a high prevalence of GDM in the Eastern Mediterranean region, indicating more policymakers' interest in timely screening and proper management.
Background & Aims: Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world and despite medical advances; it is still a major problem for healthcare systems. Improving the quality of life is one of the objectives of the nursing care programs. This study was done to evaluate the effect of partnership care model on the quality of life of patients with Asthma. Material & Methods: It was a clinical trial which was conducted in 2012, in medical wards of Imam Khomeini Hospital of Jiroft University of Medical Sciences. Using convenience sampling method, 80 hospitalized patients were selected and randomly assigned into experimental and the control groups. During a period of 3 months, intervention including the stages of motivation, preparation, engagement, and evaluation was performed. The control group just received routine care. Data was collected by Quality of Life Questionnaire for adults including 26 questions on the four major dimensions of the quality of life: physical, psychological, social and living environment and was analyzed by Chi-Square, paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test and ANOVA using SPSS-PC (v.20). Results: There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of the mean quality of life score (from46.3±12.2 to72.93± 9.2 in the experimental and 41.1 ±13.1 to 41.5± 13.8 in the control group). There was also significant differences between the dimensions of quality of life including physical, psychological, social, and environmental aspects in the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: According to the findings, this model could be recommended for caring of asthmatic patients.
BACKGROUND Emotional intelligence is one of the effective factors in managing stressful behaviours. Nurses and midwives are exposed to a variety of stressful behaviours in the workplace every day. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between emotional intelligence and anger control in nurses and midwives of Kashani hospital in southern Iran in 2018. METHODS This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 102 nurses and midwives in Ayatollah Kashani Hospital in Jiroft in 2018. Participants were selected through available sampling. Data was collected using the Shate Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and Anger Control Questionnaire. The collected data were entered into SPSS software and analysed by Pearson's correlation coefficient. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 30.97± 6.101 years. Results showed that most of the participants were married (80.4%), employment status (Tarhi) was 31.4%, had bachelor's degree (90.2%), was a midwife (60.8%), and was in morning shift (52.9%). There was a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and anger (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS According to the results of the study, attention to emotional intelligence among nurses and midwives is very important and is an important factor in managing stressful relationships between them.
