Georges Perec (1936-1982), grande scrittore francese di origine ebraica, da maggio 1971 a giugno 1975 č in analisi col famoso psicoanalista Jean-Bertrand Pontalis. Orfano della Shoah, Perec si trova in una difficilissima situazione di stallo: se vuole continuare a scrivere (ovvero, se vuole continuare a vivere), deve fare i conti con la sua infanzia, ma la memoria č assente; i genitori sembrano non aver lasciato nulla dietro di loro. Perec si trova, all'apparenza, privo di memoria: il suo inconscio sembra risolversi nel nulla di una dilagante macchia bianca. E tuttavia qualcosa sembra affiorare nel corso di un'analisi connotata da affetti molto forti: l'analizzando arriverŕ a capire che puň avvicinarsi al fantasma materno, alla sua assenza, senza restarne annichilito; l'analista comprenderŕ come sia necessario rispettare, in una certa misura, le fortificazioni difensive di un soggetto colpito nel corso dell'infanzia da una serie di lutti immedicabili e reali.
