The present paper investigates the relationship between the development of the Ivorian stock market and the country's economic performance. Stock market development indicators were identified and used to calculate the Ivorian stock market development index. A set of control variables were also identified. The empirical results suggest that gross domestic product and stock market development are cointegrated when the control variables are included in the analysis. That is, there is a long-run relationship between these variables taken together. Moreover, there is a unidirectional causality running from stock market development to economic growth. Résumé:Le présent papier analyse la relation entre le développement de la Bourse des Valeurs d'Abidjan, BVA (Côte d'Ivoire) et la performancé economique du pays. Des indicateurs du développement des marchés boursiers ontété identifiés et utilisés pour développer un indice de développement de la BVA. Un ensemble de variables de contrôle aété aussi identifié. Les résultats empiriques suggèrent que le PIB (mesure de la performancé economique) et l'indice de développement de la BVA sont cointégrés. Ainsi, il y a une dynamique de long terme entre le développement du marché boursier, la croissanceéconomique et les variables de contrôle pris ensemble. En outre, il y a une causalité uni-directionnelle allant du développement du marché boursier vers la croissanceéconomique.

The paper investigated the impact of international remittances inflow on Côte d'Ivoire's economic performance using per capita gross domestic product (GDP) growth. Data ranging from 1975 to 2016 was used within an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model framework. The aim is to establish whether there exist long-run dynamics between remittances, the country's per capita GDP and selected control variables. The empirical findings suggest a long-run relationship between remittances, remittances square, per capita GDP, investment, openness, education, and population size. Interestingly, the paper found that remittances do not significantly impact economic performance however, there exists a nonlinear relationship between remittances and growth. This invariably implies that there is a threshold beyond which, remittances will positively affect per capita growth. This tipping point stands at 1.068% of GDP. The overall implications of the findings are discussed.

Re´sume´: La pre´sente e´tude avait pour objectif d'analyser la relation de causalite´au sens de Granger entre l'expansion des exportations et la croissance e´conomique de la Coˆte d'Ivoire et de de´terminer ses implications en matie`re de cre´ation d'emplois. Cette analyse s'est faite sur la base des tests de stationnarite´, de cointe´gration et de causalite´a`la Granger. Il ressort des re´sultats de l'e´tude que malgre´l'absence de cointe´gration entre les exportations et la croissance e´conomique, il existe une relation circulaire entre elles. En outre, il n'y a pas de cointe´gration entre le facteur travail, les exportations, les de´penses publiques et la croissance e´conomique.Abstract: The objective of the present paper was to investigate Granger causality between export expansion and economic growth and draw implications for sustainable job creation strategies. Several statistical tests were undertaken (unit root, cointegration and Granger causality). The results suggest that despite the absence of cointegration between export and economic growth, there is a feedback relationship between export and economic growth. Moreover, the results also indicate no cointegration between the labour variable and export, public expenditures and economic growth variables.

The objective of this paper is to determine the impact of climate change on Cote d’Ivoire’s economic performance via per capita gross domestic product (GDP) growth, change in agricultural value added, and change in the country’s cereal yield. The data ranged from 1960 to 2016. An autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model is used to investigate the long run dynamics between climate variables (precipitation and temperature) and the country’s per capita GDP, agricultural value added as % of GDP, and cereal yield. We found that climate change has not significantly impacted the economic performance of the country. However, precipitation has been found to have positively and significantly influenced the country’s cereal yield and agricultural value added contribution to GDP at large, and thus there is no need to worry more than it is necessary.

This study investigates the effects of climate change on cocoa production in Côte d'Ivoire. The data ranged from 1961 to 2016. An ARDL model was used to investigate short and long-run dynamics between climate variables and cocoa yield. We found that in the short run, high temperatures have negative impact on cocoa trees and rainfall has a positive impact on cocoa yield. In the long run, while increase in rainfall may negatively impact cocoa yield, increases in temperature could be beneficial to cocoa yield in the country. Given IPCC's weather predictions for the country there is need to worry.
