Abstract:To contribute to the deeper knowledge of the southern Piaui vegetation, especially the areas of ecological tension, this study aimed to inventory and qualitatively assess the woody component of a Caatinga stretch in the municipality of Bom Jesus / PI, Brazil. To perform the survey plots were allocated 10 50x20 m (1000 m²) totaling 1 ha of sampled area, arranged contiguous way to minimize the possible edge effects area. They sampled the living woody individuals with diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 5 cm, regardless of height. In the survey we found 11 families, 25 genera and 27 species. Of these, those that stood out with the highest IVI values were. Cenostigma macrophyllum Tul., Combretum duarteanum Cambess., Erythroxylum laetevirens O.E.Schulz , Campomanesia pubescens (Mart. ex DC.) O. Berg and Licania rigida Benth. The diversity index Shannon-Wiener (H') was 2,7 nats.ind-1. For all purposes of comparison, it was observed that the study area is in good condition, not finding to direct exploration evidence, so little remains of forest fires, despite the proximity of the study area with the urban area the city of Bom Jesus do Piauí. The fragment is a vegetative ecotone, with predominance of species typical of the Caatinga.
Abstract:The timber sector in Brazil produces a lot of residues, causing damage to the environment. In this scenario, the objective was to produce and evaluate briquettes from sawdust produced by a carpentry shop located on the southern edge of Piauí, aiming its technological use as an energy source. Residues used at work are the species of Ipê roxo (Tabebuia impetiginosa M.), Pinus sp. L. and Violeta (Daugerbia cearensis D.). The sawdust was collected in a carpentry shop in the municipality of Corrente-PI. We used a 15 ton hydraulic press adapted. The briquettes were evaluated for bulk density, bulk density, chemical analysis, PCS, PCI, and ICOM. The briquettes showed apparent medium density 1,229 g/cm³ (Pinus sp.), 1.225 g/cm³ (Violeta) and 1.139 g/cm³ to Ipê roxo. The Ipê roxo kind of briquettes had the highest ICOM, with 0.3961. There was little difference in dimensions, density and ICOM of briquettes, when using the Tukey test at 5% significance level. Based on linear regression, the density is positively correlated with the ICOM. The briquettes produced appeared as a new energy source to be used while helping mitigate the impacts caused by the predatory exploitation of native forests.
Abstract. This study investigates the tidal dynamics in the Sylt-Rømø bight with a focus on the non-linear processes. The FESOM-C model was used as the numerical tool, which works with triangular, rectangular or mixed meshes and is equipped with a wetting/drying option. As the model's success at resolving currents largely depends on the quality of the bathymetric data, we have created a new bathymetric map for an area based on recent studies of Lister Deep, Lister Ley, and the Højer and Rømø Deep areas. This new bathymetric product made it feasible to work with high resolution grids (up to 2 m in the wetting/drying zone). As a result, we were able to study the tidal energy transformation and the role of higher harmonics in the domain in detail. For the first time, the tidal ellipses, maximum tidally-induced velocities, energy fluxes and residual circulation maps were constructed and analysed for the entire bight. Additionally, tidal asymmetry maps were introduced and constructed. The full analysis was performed on two grids with different structures and showed a convergence of the obtained results as well as fulfillment of the energy balance. A great deal of attention has been paid to the selection of open boundary conditions, model verification against available tide gauges, and recent ADCP data. The obtained results are necessary and useful benchmarks for further studies in the area, including baroclinic and sediment dynamics tasks.
