The Vernet, Collet-Sicard and Villaret Syndromes are uncommon; they affect the spaces through which some of the cranial nerves pass and can lead to the impairment of motor functions of the tongue. The etiology is variable, including benign or malignant tumors, metastasis, infections, or Idiopathic causes. Patients with the disease may report changes in the mobility and function of the tongue, dysphonia, dysarthria and dysphagia. The purpose of this article was present a case report of Collet-Sicard syndrome, and to highlight the importance of proper diagnosis by dentists. Appropriate treatment must be instituted as soon as possible and the patient should be treated by a multidisciplinary team until the complete remission of symptoms.
Objective: This work aimed of to review the implications of anti-TNF-α therapy in COVID-19 patients associated with the genetic polymorphism (TNF-α polymorphisms in the region-308) of this pertinent cytokine Methodology: Electronic searches were carried out on PUBMED Central, BVS/BIREME, Web of Science and The Cochrane Library with the aid of key-words. Results: Twenty-six articles were collected. Anti-TNF-α therapy was interpreted and evaluated. Conclusions: Although scarce information is available in the current literature, anti- TNF-α therapy seems to be a viable clinical approach for hospitalized COVID-19 patients who do not need oxygen supply. The genetic polymorphisms, although relevant, may be useful for further researched to assess the clinical response in different research groups.
Aim: To establish a protocol for patients medicated with bisphosphonates, through literature review, to avoid osteonecrosis and to provide professional guidance to accomplish the appropriate treatment. Methodology: On line searches were accomplished for the construction of this paper, which included as databases Web of Science, PUBMED Central, BVS/BIREME, Science Direct, The Cochrane Library and also PROSPERO. Results: The following characteristics were observed in the research of this protocol: Drugs with antireabsorption properties, RANK-L Inhibitor, Antiangiogenic agents, Clinical Manifestations, Drug-related risk factors, Local risk factors to be observed, Systemic and demographic risk factors, High risk factors considered. Conclusions: Bisphosphonates may be a helpful therapy for patients with organic consequences related to the therapy applied with them. Appropriate anamnesis and assessment of the systemic conditions for patients using them are mandatory requirements before their prescription.
Aim: to research through literature review, the mechanisms involved in the establishment of root resorptions. Mediators such as interleukins, prostaglandins, nitric oxide and systemic calcium available were studied in this review. Methods: On line searches were accomplished by scrutinizing the database available from PUBMED Central, BVS/BIREME. Web of Science, Science Direct, Periodic Portal from CAPES, as well as The Cochrane Library and PROSPERO were also used. The inclusion criteria were articles that described osteoclastic activity involving the hard dental tissues (cement, dentin and enamel). The search acquired 35 articles and excluded other 30. The articles acquired ranged from 1976 up to 2017. Results: the results showed that the combination of the immunologic mediators researched above will be the determinant factors on the establishment of root resorptions. Conclusions: Prostaglandins, Interleukins as well as the systemic calcium available are some of the most important factors for the establishment of root resorptions. Their final outcome, however, depends directly on the quality of injury inflicted over the group of teeth, or single tooth, involved.
Objective: to accomplish a literature review to research the clinical characteristics of azythromycin, and its indications and associations for SARS-CoV-2 infections. Methodology: Electronic searches were carried out on PUBMED Central, BVS/BIREME, Web of Science and The Cochrane Library with the aid of key-words. Results: Azithromycin is a secure antibiotic belonging to the macrolide class, effective for a vast number of infections, especially respiratory diseases. It seems to have viral indirect activity due to its being capable of altering the cell machinery, including mitochondrias, for changing the normal functioning of mitochondrial ribosomes. Conclusion: It is uncertain whether azithromycin is eligible for the treatment of virus infections in general and especially for COVID-19. Its combination with hydroxychloroquine, however, should be better researched in order to answer if it can be applied as a clinical approach for this matter.
RESUMOCaninos são elementos dentários importantes no que se refere a função, oclusão, estética. Distúrbios na erupção de caninos superiores permanentes são comuns. A erupção ectópica de um germe dentário pode ocorrer a qualquer momento, desde a sua erupção. Verificase ainda, que caninos superiores são mais acometidos com distúrbios de erupção que os terceiros molares. Diagnósticos de elementos dentários retidos são realizados por meio de exames clínicos e radiográficos, ou através de investigações de queixas diversas, como dor ou ortodônticas. O Cirurgião-Dentista deve estar familiarizado com as alterações funcionais e anatômicas referentes as impactações, ectopias dentárias e suas possíveis repercussões ao paciente, pois recomendações sobre as decisões a serem seguidas nos casos de impactações de caninos são determinadas através de minucioso estudo de cada caso.
