Using common context of conversational partners in order to build non-intrusive communication networksAbstract: Human beings have complex and varied ways to communicate and interact with each other. The Information and Communication Technologies currently are only suited for the most direct ways of interaction, ignoring the more subtle ones. That is why most of these technologies are highly intrusive. However in face-to-face communication, mechanisms exist that do not demand much attention, but they are barely present in current technologies. Using common context between conversational partners (as the knowledge they have of each other), a technological proposal for a non-intrusive communication is presented. This proposal is developed for communication between two people with a proof of concept and a brief user study. It also includes a proposal to scale such communication for its use in small social networks (as families), without necessarily growing intrusion possibilities disproportionately.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
