A ausência ou insuficiência de serviços de abastecimento de água pode comprometer a saúde e bem-estar da sociedade, principalmente nas regiões mais pobres. Dentre as doenças de veiculação hídrica, as diarreias e gastroenterites mostram grande relevância no cenário epidemiológico por envolverem índices significativos de morbidade e mortalidade, em especial entre os grupos mais vulneráveis da população. Assim, o estudo teve o objetivo de analisar a cobertura de abastecimento de água e a relação com a incidência de internações por doenças diarreicas e gastroenterites na Região Metropolitana de Belém. Para isso, foi realizada revisão bibliográfica e documental, e os dados foram obtidos nas plataformas do Sistema Nacional de Informações sobre Saneamento (SNIS), do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) e do Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DataSUS), cujo tratamento foi efetuado em software GIS para geração de mapas temáticos. A análise dos dados obtidos permitiu inferir a dificuldade de universalização do acesso a serviços de abastecimento de água enfrentada pelos municípios da RMB, onde três (n=42,9%) apresentaram um cenário ruim de abastecimento, e apenas um (n=14,3%) apresentou um cenário muito bom. Também foi constatada incidência expressiva de internações por doenças diarreicas e gastroenterites, sobretudo nos municípios de Belém e Marituba, o que pode ser reflexo dos baixos níveis de cobertura de abastecimento água, bem como da má gestão e ineficiência dos sistemas existentes. Portanto, os resultados obtidos podem servir como subsídio para estudos futuros e para tomada de decisão e adoção de medidas interventivas por gestores públicos.

INTRODUÇÃOO termo ecossistema foi utilizado pela primeira vez por Arthur George Tansley (1871 -1955) um cientista britânico, em 1935. Inicialmente chamou-se sistema aberto, pois, troca energia e interage com seu entorno. Na visão de Tansley, as dimensões dos ecossistemas podiam variar desde o átomo até o universo, os sistemas menores seriam partes dos maiores e haveria uma interação entre eles (KATO; MARTINS; 2016).Ecossistema se designa como o conjunto formado por todos os fatores bióticos e abióticos que atuam simultaneamente sobre determinada região. Portanto, qualquer ambiente onde há a interação entre o meio físico (natureza solar, luminosidade, temperatura, pressão, água, umidade do ar, salinidade) e os seres vivos ali presente são caracterizados como ecossistema (RAMOS, 2010).A floresta tropical amazônica com sua enorme biodiversidade traz características únicas ao funcionamento biológico e às relações com o clima regional, bem como uma variedade de ecossistemas. Localizada ao redor da linha do Equador, ao norte do trópico de câncer, ao sul do trópico de capricórnio, o bioma amazônico abarca uma extensão geográfica de cerca de 4.196.943,00 km² apenas no território brasileiro, mas se estende por dois grandes domínios estruturais do continente sul-americano, com o maior número de biodiversidade (CORDEIRO; ARBAGE; SCHWARTZ, 2017).Nesse sentido, o ecossistema amazônico é também caraterizado pelos altos índices pluviométricos, devido à formação dos chamados rios voadores que são cursos de água atmosféricos. Através da evaporação das águas do oceano atlântico, trazida pelos ventos alísios em direção ao continente sul-americano, ao encontrar a barreira natural formada pela Cordilheira dos Andes, faz com que essa umidade seja transformada em precipitação (MOSS, G;MOSS, M. 2015).Com efeito, acontece o processo de lixiviação de alguns nutrientes do solo como o fosforo (P), nitrogênio (N), e potássio (K). Entretanto, a sua diversidade biológica faz com que se tenha matéria orgânica em abundância que contribui para a formação dos húmus, logo, haverá o processo de mineralização da matéria orgânica acumulada, que ficara disponível ao solo e será subutilizada pelas plantas (VALLADARES, BATISTELLA, PEREIRA, 2010).Com base nesses problemas, justifica-se esta pesquisa, e a falta de soluções ou controle deles, elevou a relevância da mesma, cujo objetivo é analisar de forma quantitativa e qualitativa a ecologia e a dinâmica da relação entre a pedofauna, a atmosfera e a vegetação, no Parque Ambiental Municipal Adhemar Monteiro, Paragominas-PA.
