The electrical and thermoelectric properties of Cu2‐xTe (0 < x < 0.03) are measured as a function of temperature between 100 and 700 K. The conductivity σ and thermoelectric power Qarefound to exhibit anomalous behaviour in the vicinity of phase transformation temperatures. For each composition two minima A and B in the σ; vs. T curve are observed at about 250 and 630 K, respectively. A semi‐quantitative analysis of the B minimum using the Celustka model shows that this minimum is interpretable for all compositions by assuming the presence of an intermediate two‐phase region between α‐ and β‐Cu2 ‐ xTe. The shape of the A‐discontinuity on the other hand, strongly suggests the presence of another two‐phase region below room temperature. It is found that each minimum in σ is associated with a peak in Q at nearly the same temperature. However the width of the Q‐peak in temperature and its amplitude relative to the single‐phase value are different from the σ‐minima. This is attributed to different sensitivities of σ and Q to phase transformations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
