Higher education institutions consider student satisfaction to be one of the main factors in determining the quality of their online learning. The purpose of this study was to develop a reliable, valid, and practical instrument to measure online students' satisfaction as well as to explore the psychometric and theoretical concerns surrounding the construct validity of existing satisfaction scales. The study was carried out in 2017-2018 fall and spring with participants consisting of freshmen who took the online course in a state university (N fall =1585; N spring =1206). In this study exploratory factor analysis (EFA) (Study 1-N EFA =921) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) (Study 1-N CFA =664; Study 1-N CFA =1206) were performed to assess the construct validity of the scale's measures. As proof of validity, the effect of gender on satisfaction was examined, for which independent sample t-test was performed. For the criterion validity, the relationship between computer and internet self-efficacy and satisfaction scores of the learners was examined. The finalized version of satisfaction scale, consisting of eight items, demonstrated that the scale is suitable for general use. Suggestions for future researchers and practioners are proposed.
The aim of this study was to design at the micro level a learning analytics module for the prepared web-based self-assessment system that allows learners to test themselves. The most important component of this student-centered web-based self-assessment system is a learning analytics module that is provided by information about the learners' existing situation (feedback) gathered after the learners have tested themselves. In contrast to the item response theory, the SATO student caution index, suggested in order to define learners' status, was taken as a base in the design of this model for classroom assessments with a low number of observations. The student caution index was calculated based on learners' in-class performance and the item difficulty index. Student classification can be made based on the student caution index and correct response rate. The classification includes 6 categories that can determine the effectiveness of the learners' learning, whether or not there were incorrect answers that were the result of carelessness, and what, if any, subjects need further attention. In addition, the way in which these categories were shown on the dashboard will be designed as part of this research. DESIGNING AT THE MICRO LEVEL LEARNING ANALYTICS MODULE FOR WEB-BASED SELF-ASSESSMENT SYSTEMKeywords: self-assessment; web based assessment; SATO; student caution index SummarySelf-assessment is vital in both higher education and in professional life and development. Students are thus expected to obtain this skill before entering the professional sphere (Boud, 2013, p. 13). Self-assessment training in which learners learn to determine their strengths and weaknesses have become more common at every level of educa...
