This article examines different aspects of the oralman students’ socio-linguistic adaptation. Scientific research has identified various obstacles oralmen face when studying at Universities in Kazakhstan, especially in the context of the English language studying process. The data used in this paper explores certain peculiarities of oralman students’ adaptation to new educational environments, their attitude towards English, and their difficulties in advancing in foreign language learning. The electronic questionnaires, which included the Likert scale, multiple choice and open-ended questions, were offered to 600 students, while interviews were conducted with 90 students in the last stage of the research. Descriptive statistics and one-way analysis of variance were used to analyze the data. The scientific findings indicated some unexpected difficulties in the oralman students’ socio-linguistic adaptation, which decreased their motivation for learning the foreign language and reduced effectiveness of the teaching. However, certain noticeable discrepancies between the anticipated and real educational context were revealed. The interview and data analysis made it possible to uncover cultural, linguistic, social, and psychological problems. The scientific research suggests that the incorporation of some integrative effective methods and techniques into English classes would be useful for improvement of the oralman students’ English language skills.
The study analyses distance learning experiences in enforced isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim was to summarize and analyze factors that, to a certain extent, influenced the effectiveness of distance learning for educators. In addition to the individual psychological characteristics of respondents, the study used an author’s questionnaire aimed at collecting information on the teaching characteristics in coronavirus. A valid sample of lecturers from Moscow and St. Petersburg leading universities took part in the research. Profiles were compiled in four age groups: novice teachers - 20–30 years old; experienced teachers - 30–40 years old, professionals - 40–50 years old and teachers before the retirement age - over 50. The data were analyzed through mathematical and statistical methods and SPSS 25. Significant links were identified between professional burnout constructs, distance-learning factors in COVID-19 conditions, procrastination and age. Factors that had a significant impact on distance learning were technical communication problems, the unexpected complete transition to distance learning, lack of live communication and the dramatically increased time teachers had to spend at the computer. Two age groups were the most exposed to professional burnout: teachers between the ages of 40 and 50 and over 50.
The article covers the basics of resilience and the factors promoting sustainability within the field of education. With escalating demands on teachers in terms of increasing social pressures and expectations regarding quality of pedagogical provision, 'resilience' is a topical area of research. The main objectives of the study include ascertaining how prone to professional stress are educators compared to other professionals, pointing out the areas where the major mismatches lie, and revealing the factors influencing professional adjustment in the sphere of foreign language teaching. The correlation and interdependence of resilience, emotional intelligence, social support and other individual factors have been studied using a valid sample of specialists in language teaching: resilience was considered one of the central, individual protective factors, as well as a serious prerequisite for a successful and fulfilling life. The sample of the study comprised three groups: first, senior students (future teachers); second, university academics (senior professors) and thirdly, university junior specialists. To analyze the results, statistical and correlation methods were used: different types of interdependence were indicated through regression analysis, the Kruskal-Wallis test, violin plot, and others.
