Leaf area is one of the most important parameter for plant growth. Reliable equations were offered to predict leaf area for Zea mays L. cultivars. All equations produced for leaf area were derived as affected by leaf length and leaf width. As a result of ANOVA and multiregression analysis, it was found that there was a close relationship between actual and predicted growth parameters. The produced leaf-area prediction model in the present study is LA = a + b L + c W + d LZ where LA is leaf area, L is leaf length, W is maximum leaf width, LZ is leaf zone and a, b, c, d are coefficients. R 2 values were between 0.88-0.97 and standard errors were found to be significant at the p<0.001 significance level.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of different salt treatments on seed germination and seedling growth of some bread wheat cultivars. In present experiments, 7 different bread wheat cultivars (Es-26, Harmankaya-99, Müfitbey, Nacibey, Sönmez-2001, Soyer-02 and Yunus) were subjected to 5 different salt concentrations (0, 25, 50, 100 and 150mM). Experiments were conducted in randomized plots experimental design with 3 replications. It was observed that cultivars had different responses to salt doses in terms of germination time. Dry coleoptile and radicula weights and lengths decreased with increasing salt concentrations. It was concluded that salinity negatively influenced germination times and seedling growth of bread wheat cultivars.

Öner: Assessment of genetic variation in Turkish local maize genotypes using multivariate discriminant analysis - Ordu, Abstract. The objective of study was to assess genetic variations among tassel and ear traits of Turkish local maize (Zea mays L.) genotypes. Seventy-nine maize germplasms consisting of three races (flint, pop and dent) from northern part of Turkey were evaluated for 16 traits (6-ear and 10-tassel) by using multivariate analysis. ANOVA revealed significant differences in ear and tassel traits. The highest positive correlations were observed between ear length and number of kernels per ear (r = 0.75, p < 0.01); between tassel length and number of kernels per ear (r = 0.75, p < 0.01). The highest negative correlations were observed between mean node distance and tassel diameter (r = -0.30, p < 0.01). Six ear traits revealed that number of ears and ear diameter multivariate correlations covered 91.6% and ear diameter, alone, 47.6% of total variation among accessions. Eight tassel traits were revealed that tassel length and tassel diameter multivariate correlation covered 88.8% and tassel diameter alone 85.1% of total variation. Totally, sixteen ear and tassel traits revealed that tassel diameter and number of flowers per main branch multivariate correlation covered 94.8% and number of flowers per main branch alone 86.8% of total variation. The races are separated into the groups, densely. Although tassel traits displayed low eigenvalue accounting for 56.8% of total variance between races, ear traits displayed very high eigenvalue accounting for 94.6% of total variance. Combined ear and tassel traits had higher eigenvalue accounting for 74.6% of total variance. Results indicated that the first and the second principal component were belonging to ear and tassel traits for Turkish maize races, respectively. The broad trait variation in maize germplasm implies large opportunities for genetic improvement of northern Turkish maize accessions.

Bu araştırma, Ordu il ve ilçelerinden toplanan 156 yerel mısır genotipi kullanılarak, Ordu ekolojik koşullarında 2013 yılında yürütülmüştür. Deneme Augmented deneme desenine göre 2 sıralı olarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada bitki boyu, tepe ve koçan püskülü gösterme süreleri, ilk koçan yüksekliği, sap çapı, bitkide yaprak sayısı, koçan boyu, koçan çapı, koçandaki sıra sayısı, sıradaki dane sayısı, koçandaki tane ağırlığı, bintane ağırlığı ve tek bitki verimi incelenmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen minimum ve maksimum verilere göre; bitki boyu 33.9-301.2 cm, ilk koçan yüksekliği 12-195 cm, tepe püskülü gösterme süresi 68-80 gün, koçan püskülü gösterme süresi 76-88 gün, yaprak sayısı 7.0-12.33 adet, koçan boyu 5.8-20.2 cm, koçan çapı 13.2-41.4 mm, koçandaki sıra sayısı 7.2-14.3 adet, sıradaki dane sayısı 7.2-36.6 adet arasında değişim göstermişken, bintane ağırlığı 138.43-423.5 g ve tek bitki verimi ise 7.22-188.0 g arasında değişmiştir. Tek bitki verimi dikkate alındığında; 156 genotipten ortalamanın üzerindeki 77 genotipin ki bu da genotiplerin %49'u ileriki ıslah çalışmalarında materyal olarak incelenen özellikler bakımından değerlendirilebileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.

This research was to determine in 2015 vegetation period in Ordu. In research, 13 maize varieties was used as experimental materials. There search was done 3 times according to randomized block test pattern. In research, changed between 23.44-27.84 mm, leaf count changed between 11.67-13.63, sowing to silking time changed between 55-65.33 days, anthesis to silking time changed between 59-67.33 days, stover yield changed between 4525.17-5984.28 kg/da, core yield changed between 2166.17-3569.57 kg/da, leaf/stem rate changed between 35.86-53.85 %, core/plant rate changed between 32.10-41.10 %, forage yield changed between 6736.33-9476.72 kg/da, dry matter yield rate changed between 1758.41-2153.43 kg/da, ADF rate changed between 25.61-30.80 %, NDF rate changed between 50.57-57.43 %, crude protein rate changed between 7.63-9.32 %. The highest green Öz Bu araştırma 2015 yılında Ordu'da yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada 13 mısır çeşidi materyal olarak kullanılmıştır. Araştırma tesadüf blokları deneme desenine göre 3 tekerrürlü olarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmada bitki boyu 309.93-365.20 cm, ilk koçan yüksekliği 99.80-150.63 cm, sap çapı 23.44-27.84 mm, yaprak sayısı 11.67-13.63 adet, tepe püskülü gösterme süresi 55-65 gün, koçan püskülü gösterme süresi 59-67 gün, stover verimi 4525.17-5984.28 kg/ da, koçan verimi 2166.17-3569.57 kg/da, yaprak/sap oranı % 35.86-53.85, koçan/bitki oranı % 32.10-41.10, yeşil ot verimi 6736.33-9476.72 kg/da, kuru madde verimi 1758.41-2153.43 kg/da, ADF oranı % 25.61-30.80, NDF oranı % 50.57-57.43, ham protein oranı % 7.63-9.32 arasında değişmiştir. En yüksek yeşil ot verimi Everest, TK 6063, OSSK 602, Sagunto, Cadız, Hido ve Carella çeşitlerinden elde edilmiştir.
