Background: There are extremely stressful stimuli in the NICU environment. Although attempts have already saved neonates in this unit, this can disturb the adaptability of the infants with environmental stimuli. Methods: In this study, 120 preterm infants were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The quiet time protocol was implemented at 16:00-18:00 while the control group received a routine program at 11:00-13:00. SpO2 and respiratory rate were measured in 15-min intervals and one hour before and after both times. The sound level and light intensity were also measured. Data analysis was done by independent t-test, Mann Whitney, and ANOVA using SPSS version 11.5. Results: Of all infants, 40% were girls and 60% were boys. Regarding intra-group comparison, the Friedman's nonparametric test showed that the percentage of oxygen saturation in the quiet-time group was not significantly different at the first, second, and third hours during the intervention (P = 0.32); in the control group, it was not also significant. The respiratory rate at the second hour of the intervention was lower in the quiet time group than in the control group (P < 0.07). Conclusions: The implementation of the quiet time protocol can decrease heart rate and respiratory rate through a decrease in environmental stimuli (noise, light, and infant handling), and thus, is recommended for reducing stress in preterm infants.
Evaluation of the Level of Spiritual Health in PatientsUndergoing Hemodialysis hronic diseases such as kidney failure are the most important problems of the health care systems and patients have different degrees of stress dependent to the time spent in hospital and how long they are under intensive care. Psychological stress affects a person not only physically, but also emotionally, which in turn has negative impacts on body health. Studies have shown that the majority of dialysis patients have limitations in physical and emotional roles as well as occupational and cognitive function. Spirituality as a human dimension and with the understanding of its role in the C Introduction: Chronic and debilitating diseases confront the person with questions about the meaning and purpose of life. Many patients recognize spiritual health as a factor that creates meaning and purpose in life and promotes quality of life. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the level of spiritual health in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Materials and Methods:In this descriptive correlational study, 82 patients undergoing hemodialysis were selected by census method. The study population was all patients undergoing hemodialysis referred to the hemodialysis center. Necessary data were collected using the Pulotzin and Ellison Spiritual Health Questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results:The mean age of patients was 60.9 12 12.5, most of whom were female (54.4%), and 96.3% of the research units were married, of which 61% had a history of underlying diseases. Findings showed that the religious and spiritual health of patients undergoing hemodialysis is moderate and also the existential health of these people is low. Conclusion:The results of this study show that spiritual health in people undergoing hemodialysis is moderate. Due to the effect of chronic renal failure and hemodialysis on various physical and mental dimensions of patients, nurses with a holistic care approach with an emphasis on the spiritual dimension of care to strive to improve the spiritual health of patients.
