BackgroundHealth literacy is defined as the capacity to obtain, interpret and understand basic health information. In each country, the count of published literature is a good indicator for scientific activity. This study aimed to assess the growth rate of scientific production in the field of health literacy in Middle Eastern countries during 2005–2014.MethodsWe used the PubMed database and retrieved 839 papers in the field of health literacy from three productive countries in the Middle East: Iran, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. We applied the bibliometric indicator of Price’s Law to assess the increase of scientific literature. The correlation between bibliometric data and some health indicators such as gross domestic product and population was calculated.ResultsWorldwide research productivity in health literacy field was 56 653 documents while that from Middle Eastern countries were 839 papers. Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia were three productive countries in Middle East. Iran and Saudi Arabia have undergone exponential growth, but Turkey has undergone linear growth over the studied period.ConclusionsIn conclusion, although the present data show promising increase and good start in research productivity from countries in Middle East, they have a trivial sharing in publishing scientific papers in the field of health literacy through 2005–2014.
Staff is the only sustainable competitive advantage of any organization; the success of the organization depends on the empowerment and health of the staff. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychological empowerment and health of librarians in state universities of Yazd. Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was conducted among librarians working in libraries, research centers, and journal offices of Yazd Universities in 2016. The tools included psychological empowerment questionnaire (α = 0.95) and GHQ28 questionnaire of Goldberg and Hiller (α = 0.83). Data were analyzed by SPSS 20 using Pearson, Anova, and t-test. Results: The results showed that the mean scores of psychological empowerment and health score for librarians were 19.73 ± 2.44 and 23.48 ± 11.20, respectively. In the correlational study of health empowerment, Pearson correlation coefficient (p > 0.05) was obtained. The relationship between empowerment and health scores was significant and inverse. Conclusion: Managers and administrators of libraries in Yazd state universities should consider the psychological empowerment of librarians as one of the main strategies for improving their health. Health status of the librarians should be considered as an important factor required for health evolution.
Introduction: Healthy and nutritional habits are formed and consolidated during adolescence. So this research has been done in Ardakan-Yazd province on high school students' attitude to fast food use. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 200 students have been chosen by stratified sampling method and the data was collected by a questionnaire which approved its reliability and validity. All the descriptive data has been analyzed by SPSS 16 software through Chi-square experiment and ANOVA tests. Results: The results of the experiment determined that 55% of the students were female, and 93% were single. The students' BMI was as follow: 22% thin (BMI< 18.5) 56% normal (18.5≤ BMI< 25) 14.5% overweight (25≤ BMI< 30) 6.5% fat (obese) (BMI ≥30).The female has a positive attitude to fast foods (P= 0.03). The mean attitude score for eating fast food in 17-18 years old group was more than 15-16 years old students (P= 0.001). The mean attitude score also showed that the single students were more eager to eat fast foods than the married students (P= 0.001) Conclusion: Most of the people who use fast foods are low educated, teenagers, youth and singles. On the other hand, social media like TV and radio and family has a significant effect on correct nutritional habits. So improving family's attitudes and educating students and teachers by social media can help in transferring data to the students and their teachers.
