To sustain in today’s ever-changing and competitive landscape, firms must work within and outside of their organizations’ boundaries. Open innovation (OI) strategies such as external technology acquisition (ETA), and external technology exploitation (ETE), can effectively improve the innovation performance of the organizations. Technologies like social media can help organizations to scout for appropriate technology, and source for ideas and knowledge from external sources to support their innovations. Moreover, digitalization can hasten business operations and enhance the innovation process of the firm. Focusing on open innovation (OI), this study takes an integrated approach towards investigating the impact of OI strategies, technology scouting through social media, and digitalization vision on innovation and firm performance. Data were drawn from 153 organizations in Malaysia, and the partial least squares (PLS) method was used to analyze data. The findings revealed that ETE, technology scouting through social media, and digitalization vision have a significant relationship with innovation performance. This, in turn, shows a positive relationship with firm performance. However, ETA does not have a significant relationship with innovation performance in the Malaysia context. This study extends the current literature on OI through the use of specific technology variables, such as technology scouting through social media and digitalization vision to support organizations’ innovation.
PurposeBased on the dynamic capability theory (DCT), this study examines the role of digitalisation vision and the impact of key information technology (IT) strategies, such as IT flexibility, IT integration and IT agility, on organisations' process innovation capability and the subsequent impact these may have on innovation performance.Design/methodology/approachData for this study were collected from 153 public listed organisations in Malaysia. The survey questionnaire method was used to collect the data from the organisations' representatives.FindingsResults showed that it is important for organisation to have a strategic digitalisation vision to improve their process innovation capabilities. IT agility and IT integration also had a significant positive relationship with the process innovation capabilities of the organisations, which in turn had a positive impact on innovation performance.Originality/valueDigital transformation and innovation are crucial for organisations to survive in the era of Industry 4.0. However previous studies have not captured the role of digitalisation vision, strategic IT components and its impact on process innovation capabilities. The current study filled up the gap and examined these relationships. The outcome of this study provides valuable insights for managers to understand the importance of digitalisation and the need to focus on key IT strategies. Such insights can be used to improve organisations' process capability which is critical for innovation and performance.
This research measures career adaptability among Malaysian ICT professionals using career adapt-abilities scale (CAAS). Career adaptability were analyzed for direct relationships with career commitment and intention to leave. Career commitment was also tested as mediator between career adaptability and intention to leave. Samples consist of 393 ICT professionals and data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that career adaptability has positive influence on career commitment and negative influence on intention to leave. Career commitment was negatively related to intention to leave and it mediates the relationship between career adaptability and intention to leave. In conclusions, intention to leave among Malaysian ICT professionals are due to their career adaptability and career commitment.
Manuscript type: Research paper Research aims: This study aims to investigate the use and impact of artificial intelligence (AI)-based accounting software among organisations in Malaysia. Design/Methodology/Approach: Face-to face interview is performed with representatives from nine organisations that are using AI-based accounting software. Constant comparative method is used to analyse the data collected. Research findings: The results highlight various adoptions of AIbased accounting software across the organisations. These are mainly used as a tool to deposit document images, to capture invoice information automatically, to monitor invoice approvals, to manage risks and also to track users' activities. The use of AI-based accounting software has accelerated productivity, improved efficiency, enhanced customer service, supported the flexible working style, increased process governance as well as saved manpower. Theoretical contribution/Originality: This study fills the research void by providing insights into how the AI-accounting software is used, thereby benefitting organisations in Malaysia. With the arrival of industry revolution 4.0, comprehensive knowledge on the usage of AI is pertinent. The findings of this study may also serve as a foundation for future research in AI adoption.
