Universities are encouraging efforts to improve their overall quality, including their graduates’ profiles. The absorptivity of graduates in industries or users has become one of the indicators of graduates’ profile quality. This tracer study aimed to get data from graduates dealing with compatibility of knowledge and skills acquired with their job. This program was carried out with the awareness of the university for the graduates’ empowerment. Some of the common problems found in conducting this program were collecting data from graduation books (making the data is less accurate), many telephone numbers could not be contacted or were not active, the time required by respondents while answering questionnaires over calls, and the total number of respondents being less than the expected target. This is because the processes used in the tracer study can be tedious for the respondents (alumni), and they lose interest. The method used in tracer study consists of four stages: (1) preparation, (2) implementation, (3) analysis, and (4) evaluation of results. The preparation stage covers updating graduate data, developing questionnaires, and arranging for and training invited surveyors. The implementation phase consists of deployment, monitoring, and the remaining processes, while the analysis stage is the process of analyzing and recapitulating the questionnaire. The final evaluation phase is the overall reporting and assessment stage of the program. All graduates are expected to be able to be tracked through this method. The opportunity to learn English should be given to all learners since English has been widely spread globally. Learners should be exposed to English as early as possible and be prevalent for all, including disabled students. Students who need special treatment in learning should also get equal opportunity to study, especially English. One type of disabled students who need special attention in English learning is those who have autism. Autistic students are in need of special treatment learning English since they have more difficulties in perceiving and producing language code. Therefore, English teachers should have awareness of the characteristics of autistic students concerning speech difficulties. It is highly necessary for autistic students to have intensive therapy and in other sides, they also have a right to learn foreign languages like English. Speech therapy as one of the therapies used to assist the autistic students in producing language codes is potentially in line with English learning. In this case, speech therapy can be done while teaching English to autistic students because speech therapy often requires graded language teaching. This study focuses on how speech therapy is integrated with English teaching for autistic students in Second Grader of Junior High School students to improve their English proficiency and speech competence as well. The study is an ongoing classroom action research conducted in SMP Sunan Muria in Kudus Regence, Central Java, Indonesia.
Textbook-based teaching commonly used in the ELT context in Indonesia results in a hard stimulation for students to speak more since the focus is reading skills. Activating peers' activities through English peer counselling in teaching speaking is one of the effective ways to promote students’ confidence and motivation in speaking. It is an activity conducted by peers that focuses on developing fundamental skills, especially speaking. This research aims to know the students' thoughts about English peer counselling toward their confidence and motivation in speaking. This research is qualitative research with a case study design. The researcher used a questionnaire as an instrument to collect the data. The questionnaire was given to 115 students of the English Education Program who joined the activity. The result shows that the first indicator reached 58,1%, which belongs to the neutral category. In comparison, the second indicator reached 91,4%. The final score for indicator one and indicator two was 79,8%. It indicates that students positively perceive English peer counselling to engage their speaking confidence and motivation. The activity encourages students to be more active in small conversations and discussions. They have better confidence in talking to their peers, which also gains their motivation. Similar research about English peer counselling for different skills, e.g. reading, writing, and listening, is highly possible to conduct.
