Environmental stresses including salinity, drought, cold, warmer temperatures, alterations in precipitation patterns, fluctuations of weather events, and increasing insect and disease infestations negatively affect crop production and nutritional values. This situation becomes further complicated due to the changing climatic conditions, thus raising concern about food security worldwide. Some worst‐case projections indicated that by 2100, CO2 concentrations will reach 950 parts per million, temperatures will climb by 3.5 to more than 8°C, sea level will rise by more than 2.4 meters, and the average farmland drought risk index will increase from 52.45 to 129. In addition, average precipitation will increase by 1%–3% in some areas and atmospheric water vapor will increase by 6%–7% for every degree of temperature rise. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a staple crop in many parts of the world. The main objective of this review is to highlight the prospects of rice for future climatic conditions. The present review depicts the advantages and prospects of rice and addresses why rice is a better option as a cereal crop for the future situations for food and nutritional sustainability. The impact of climate change on food and nutritional security can be mitigated by developing biotic and abiotic stress‐tolerant and biofortified rice varieties. These rice cultivars can withstand the negative effects of climate change while also meeting the nutritional needs of future generations. Furthermore, this review underlines the forthcoming issues and measures that should be addressed to assure a sustainable food and nutritional supply in the era of global climate change.

White shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, is a widely farmed species. In China, shrimp postlarvae (PL) are frequently subjected to salinity reduction treatment to meet end growers' needs. However, although this treatment effectively reduces vibrio counts, its impact on gut microbiota health is still unknown. In this study, we applied a euryhaline strain of BALOs, BDN-1F2 (BD), and Bacillus subtilis (SD) to the rearing of secondgeneration shrimp PL after salinity reduction treatment so as to determine if they could impact PL gut microbiota by using high-throughput sequencing analysis. Results show that PL gut microbiota, both compositionally and functionally, have been badly wrecked after salinity reduction treatment with the generally recognized as opportunistic pathogens Gammaproteobacteria being the only dominant class at day 1 of test, viz., 99.43, 85.61, and 83.28% in BD, SD, and control (CD) groups, respectively. At day 7, Gammaproteobacteria was still the only dominant class in the SD and CD groups with relative abundance of 99.77 and 99.87% correspondingly, whereas in the BD group, its value dropped to 8.44%. Regarding biodiversity parameter the Shannon index, over the 7-day test period, while the SD group was unchanged (0.98-0.93), the CD group dropped to 0.94 from 2.94, and the BD group was raised to 7.14 from 0.93. Functionally, compared to control, the SD group displayed similar strength of various predicted community functions, but the BD group had hugely enhanced its various capabilities (p < 0.05). These results demonstrated that the addition of BDN-1F2 had exceedingly improved PL gut microbiota health by raising its biodiversities and strengthening its functionalities. On reviewing data derived from this as well as relevant studies, a Shannon index cutoff value was tentatively suggested so as to differentiate microbiota-healthy PL7-15 from the unhealthy ones. Furthermore, a conceptual mechanism of BALOs in the rectification/improvement of the microbial community health has also been proposed.

Field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of seed treatment and foliar spray with four different plants extracts viz. Lawsonia alba, Adhatoda vesica, Swertia chirayaita, Calendula officinalis, two chemicals viz. Provax-200 WP (0.4%), Bavistin (0.3%) and BAU-Biofungicide (a Trichoderma based preparation) on disease severity, yield and yield contributing characters of wheat cv. Kanchan during the period from March, 2014 to April, 2015. The highest seedling number/m2 (168.0) recorded in case of seed treatment + foliar spray with Bavistin and the lowest (133.0) in case of Lawsonia alba leaf extract at 30 DAS. The highest plant height (112.69 cm) and panical length (11.86 cm) were recorded in case of seed treatment + foliar spray with BAU-Biofungicide and the lowest in untreated control. The maximum disease severity was recorded in untreated control at all counts, but minimum disease severity was recorded in case of using seed treatment + foliar spray with BAU-Biofungicide at 4th count. The highest 1000-grain weight (41.590 g) was found in case of seed treatment + foliar spray with BAU-Biofungicide followed by seed treatment + foliar spray with Bavistin (41.340 g) and the lowest (39.073 g)  in untreated control. The highest grain yield/ha (4769.85 kg) was found in case of seed treatment + foliar spray with BAU-Biofungicide and the lowest (3069.85 kg) in untreated control. Seed treatment + foliar spray with BAU-Biofungicide resulted 35.64% increase of yield over untreated control. The maximum number of grade-0 seeds (89.90 %) was recorded in case of seed treatment + foliar spray with BAU-Biofungicide and the lowest (80.1%) in case of untreated control. Therefore, BAU-Biofungicide can successfully be used for eco-friendly management of leaf blight disease of wheat for obtaining higher yield by avoiding chemicals. Asian Australas. J. Biosci.
