This study demonstrates the characteristics of brain MRI abnormalities in Chinese NMO patients, which are helpful to the revision of diagnostic criteria for NMO.
CEUS can show the active bleeding associated with hepatic and splenic trauma with various imaging characteristics, thus making it possible to diagnose active bleeding using CEUS.
Abstract. Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection that causes dramatic mortality worldwide. The present study aimed to investigate the pathogenesis of pneumonia and identify microRNA (miRNA) biomarkers as candidates for targeted therapy. RNA from the peripheral blood plasma of participants with pneumonia (severe, n=9; non-severe, n=9) and controls (n=9) was isolated and paired-end sequencing was performed on an Illumina HiSeq4000 system. Following the processing of raw reads, the sequences were aligned against the Genome Reference Consortium human genome assembly 38 reference genome using Bowtie2 software. Reads per kilobase of transcript per million mapped read values were obtained and the limma software package was used to identify differentially expressed miRNAs (DE-miRs). Then, DE-miR targets were predicted and subjected to enrichment analysis. In addition, a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of the predicted targets was constructed. This analysis identified 11 key DE-miRs in pneumonia samples, including 6 upregulated miRNAs (including hsa-miR-34a and hsa-miR-455) and 5 downregulated miRNAs (including hsa-let-7f-1). All DE-miRs kept their upregulation/downregulation pattern in the control, non-severe pneumonia and severe pneumonia samples. Predicted target genes of DE-miRs in the subjects with non-severe pneumonia vs. the control and the subjects with severe pneumonia vs. the non-severe pneumonia group were markedly enriched in the adherens junction and Wnt signaling pathways. KALRN, Ras homolog family member A (RHOA), β-catenin (CTNNB1), RNA polymerase II subunit K (POLR2K) and amyloid precursor protein (APP) were determined to encode crucial proteins in the PPI network constructed. KALRN was predicted to be a target of hsa-mir-200b, while RHOA, CTNNB1, POLR2K and APP were predicted targets of hsa-let-7f-1. The results of the present study demonstrated that hsa-let-7f-1 may serve a role in the development of cancer and the Notch signaling pathway. Conversely, hsa-miR-455 may be an inhibitor of pneumonia pathogenesis. Furthermore, hsa-miR-200b might promote pneumonia via targeting KALRN.
Early diagnosis is critical for the prevention and control of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).We attempted to apply a protocol using teleultrasound, which is supported by the 5G network, to explore the feasibility of solving the problem of early imaging assessment of COVID-19. Four male patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 were hospitalized in isolation wards in two different cities. Ultrasound specialists, located in two other different cities, carried out the robot-assisted teleultrasound and remote consultation in order to settle the problem of early cardiopulmonary evaluation. Lung ultrasound, brief echocardiography, and blood volume assessment were performed. Whenever difficulties of remote manipulation and diagnosis occurred, the alternative examination was repeated by a specialist from another city, and in sequence, remote consultation was conducted immediately to meet the consensus. The ultrasound specialists successfully completed the telerobotic ultrasound. Lung ultrasound indi-
Angiogenesis is a critical factor in tumor growth and metastasis, and microvessel density (MVD) was an important parameter for assessing vessels in tumors. However, radiologic assessment of tumor vascularity is not yet well established. In our study, we aimed at investigating the efficacy of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in exploring the vascularity of the ovarian tumors or tumor-like lesions to assess the relationship between the parameters of the peak intensity (PI) and area under curve (AUC) on CEUS and MVD in ovarian masses. Compared to the contrast-enhanced ultrasound technique, conventional ultrasound shows limitation in differentiating benign and malignant ovarian tumors. The former is promising in improving the sensitivity of detecting small vessels and blood flow in ovarian tumors. Our results showed clear differences in enhancement patterns between benign and malignant ovary tumors or tumor-like lesions. The PI and AUC in the malignant tumors were significantly higher than those in the benign tumors or tumor-like lesions (p=0.001 and =0.01, respectively). The MVD was 43.1 ± 20.4 in the benign tumors or tumor-like lesions and was 65.3 ± 22.3 in the malignant ones (p= 0.01). In both the benign and malignant groups, the PI and AUC were correlated significantly with the MVD (r=0.595, p = 0.001; r =0.533, p = 0.003, respectively). The PI and AUC in CEUS can reflect the MVD in ovarin tumors. The PI and AUC of the ovarian masses in the contrast transvaginal sonography show significant correlation with the angiogenesis and may help in assessing tumor vascularity in ovarian masses.
