The interaction of a screw dislocation with a circular inhomogeneity near the free surface is discussed in this paper. By using the complex potential and conformal mapping technique, an explicit series solution is obtained. Then, the solution is cast into a new expression to separate the interaction effects between the dislocation, inhomogeneity, and free surface. The new expression is not only convenient to reveal the coupling interaction effects, but also helpful to improve the convergence of the solution. As an application of the new expression, a simple approximate formula is presented with high accuracy. Finally, the full-field interaction energy and image force are evaluated and studied graphically. It is found that when the screw dislocation, inhomogeneity, and free surface are close to each other, their interaction effects strongly and intricately couple in the near field. In the case of a soft inhomogeneity or a hole, there is an unstable equilibrium point of the screw dislocation between the inhomogeneity and free surface, whereas in the case of a hard or rigid inhomogeneity, there is an unstable equilibrium point on the opposite side of the inhomogeneity.
This work deals with the coupling interaction of a screw dislocation with a bimaterial interface and a nearby circular inclusion. Explicit series solutions are obtained by the complex potential and conformal mapping technique. Then the solutions are cast into new expressions with the coupling interaction effects separated. The new expressions converge rapidly and provide good first-order approximation formulae. The interaction energy and image force fields are formulated, evaluated, and shown graphically. It is found that the inclusion severely distorts the neighboring interaction energy contours and image force lines. There must be one unstable equilibrium point in Material 2 where the inclusion is located, whereas there may be zero, one or two equilibrium points (stable or unstable) in Material 1 without any inclusion, which depends on a combination of three material shear moduli and the nondimensional distance between the inclusion and bimaterial interface. It is interesting to notice that the direction of some local image forces in Material 1 may be inversed by a nearby inclusion in Material 2, and the inverse region is close to but not connected to the bimaterial interface.
The coupling interaction of a piezoelectric screw dislocation with a bimaterial containing a circular inclusion is investigated by the complex potential method and conformal mapping technique. Explicit series solutions are obtained and then cast into new expressions with the coupling interaction effects separated. The new expressions converge much more rapidly and their one-order approximation formulae have satisfactory accuracy in many cases. According to the generalized Peach-Koehler formula, the image force acting on the screw dislocation is explicitly obtained and numerically studied to reveal the coupling interaction arising from multiple material properties as well as the geometry of inhomogeneous phases. In all regions, the coupling interaction has a significant influence on the number, location and stability of dislocation equilibrium points. In particular, the inclusion can reverse the image force within a region in the material on the other side of the interface.
